Triona is a town on the top of a hill in the middle of Sicily. Wikipedia claims it was settled 7000 year before Jesus was born, which seems fairly impressive.
The reason we were there was connected to the following statement (as in Wikipedia) During World War II, Troina was the site of a battle between the Allies and the Axis forces. The town was mostly destroyed during the six-day fighting (31 July – 6 August 1943).
Why is that important. Well because travelling with the Allies was Robert Capa, who is Reobert Capa? arguably the world's most famous War Photographer, the man who many claim 'invented' being a photo journalist, and photographer of a war photo that all of you know from the Spanish Civil war.
But in Triona is a Mueseum of Robert Capa, right behind this statue of him mainly focusing on the photos he took during the Allies campaign in Triona and surronding areas. It was an amazing exhibition, genuinely moving and fascinating in that you can then wander outside and see exactely where those photos were taken, a see what has changed and more importantly what hasn't.
But Triona is also more than that it is a very pretty Sicilian town, quiet sure, but full of old buildings, very very clean, winding little streets and a fairly impressive resturant where you can eat on the edge of the cliff overlooking the hills on the middle of Sicily.
If you have even a passing interest in photography then it's a town well worth a visit.
