After playing Splinterlands for so long, I never paid much attention to the tournaments. Not that I thought the prizes were low, but because there were always so many competitors that I thought I would just lose my DECs since I probably wouldn't get a good enough ranking to recover my investment. As you can see, my confidence in my Splinterlands skills isn't the best, but I decided to take a chance and try it out to see how I would do. In fact, the entry fee is low, so even if I didn't manage to recover my investment, it would still be a good experience and also a learning experience so I could improve my skills in the game.
The tournament I decided to participate in was the Drybone Wild Gold Invitational, it is a Wild format tournament and its entry fee is 400 DECs. In this tournament, cards from all sets are allowed and their maximum level is Gold League, which means that the cards can only be used up to certain levels:
- Common - Level 8
- Rare - Level 6
- Epic - Level 5
- Legendary - Level 3
I selected this tournament because I'm used to cards at this level or at the maximum level. If it were a Novice, Bronze or Silver League tournament, I would probably do very badly because I don't even remember what the cards do at these levels.
One of the reasons that led me to try the tournaments was that I already rent cards and SPS for my battles, so I don't need to rent any for the tournament because I already have them. This means that my only cost would be the tournament registration fee, which in this case is 400 DEC, since I would rent the cards regardless of whether I participate in the tournaments or not.
After paying the registration fee and waiting for the tournament to start, I finally entered the battlefield and had 11 opponents to defeat.
You can follow each battle I had through the links below:

Second Battle - Watch
Third Battle - Watch
Fourth Battle - Watch
Fifth Battle - Watch
Sixth Battle - Watch
Seventh Battle - Watch
Eighth Battle - Watch
Ninth Battle - Watch
Tenth Battle - Watch
Eleventh Battle - Watch
Completing all the battles I managed 4 wins and 7 losses, this was not enough for me to advance to the next phase but it was enough to earn me position 126 on the leaderboard. I know this is a low position but I am happy because it was enough for me to earn some SPS and not only recover my investment but also make a profit.
The results are not out yet because phase 2 is happening now, but there is no way I can get a lower ranking than this so my prizes are already guaranteed and I will receive 133 SPS.
Let's convert the values to see how much profit I made by participating in this tournament.
133 SPS is 4.59 Hive, this means that my profit in this tournament was 3.47 Hive and this is a great value considering that I did not have any additional costs other than the registration fee and it also took me a few minutes to complete all my battles.
I have come to the conclusion that participating in tournaments is very worthwhile and from now on I will be a frequent participant in them, but only in the gold and diamond league tournaments.
