Only Japanese today★本日は日本語のみでお送りいたします。 先日、YouTubeを見ていたら、アニメーションの中で「板状の岩に象形文字が書かれているもの」が背景の一部として登場していました。 ヒエログリフですね。 ヒエログリフは古代エジプトの文字の一つで、エジプトの遺跡に多く記されていて、私たち日本人が「オリエンタルな遺跡」というものを思い浮かべる時に真っ先にイメージするものだと思います。 「ヒエログリフ」「画像」で検索していただければたくさんみることができますので、ここに画像は掲載しません。 エジプトでは紀元前3000年ごろから紀元後394年までのかなり長い間、ヒエログリフが「神聖な言語」として使われていたそうです。 古代エジプトではヒエラティック、デモティックとヒエログリフの3種のエジプト文字があったそうで、パピルスに手書きする時はヒエラティック、それをさらに筆記体として書きやすくし、商業用として使われたのがデモティック、ということのようです。 間違ってたらすみません。 ヒエログリフ解読のきっかけとなったのは、すごく有名な「ロゼッタストーン発見」ですね。 1799年にナポレオンのエジプト遠征の際に発見された「ロゼッタストーンと呼ばれる石碑」。 これがヒエログリフの研究に大きな進捗をもたらし、イギリスの物理学者トーマス・ヤングさんや、フランスの言語学者ジャン・フランソワ・シャンポリオンさんたちによって研究が続けられ、1822年にとうとう解読されました。 このことは世界史の教科書に必ず出てくる話です。 解読されたヒエログリフは、こんな感じでなんとも可愛らしく一覧表になって現代でも親しまれています。 という訳で、YouTubeで見たロゼッタストーンっぽいものから、自分が大好きだった世界史の中の古代史のことを思い出してすごく懐かしくて、インターネットを色々と見ていたら、何とこんな素敵なマシーンを発見。 確かに数年前にも見たことがあるのですが「ヒエログリフで秘密の手紙を書いてみよう」という子ども向けの本や「ヒエログリフの表札作れます」というかなり真剣な大人向けの広告とか、なかなか人気があります。 私、高校生の時に社会科で世界史を選択したのですが、本当に世界史が好きなんです。 今も趣味で世界史の本を購入してしまうし、そこから派生して古代美術の本を読んだり神話の本を読んだり、それらが絵画や現代のゲームなどのカルチャーに与えている影響とか、真剣に調べてしまいます。 このマシーンは本当に気軽に楽しめるようになっていて可愛いので、ちょっと今回記事にしてみました。 よろしければやってみてください。 このサイトを下へスクロールしていくと「名前を変換」モードを選ぶ画面になります。 因みにもう一つのモード＝「指定箇所を変換」というのは秘密の手紙を書く時に、伏せ字にしたいところをヒエログリフに変換する、というものです。 通常だと「○○県△△市内」「A子さんとB助くん」のような記号やアルファベットを使うところ、ヒエログリフを使ったらそれだけで笑顔になれそうな気がします。 今回は私のHIVEのログイン名をヒエログリフに変換してみました。 アルファベットが対応しているのでこれはまず間違いなくうまくいくでしょう。 もちろん本名を変換したり、自分の住所を変換しても面白いと思います。 説明に書かれている通り、漢字と記号は対応できないのですが、日本語のひらがなとカタカナは対応していて、綺麗に変換されます。 このようになりました。 鳥さんが多いですね。可愛いです。シンプルに可愛い。 どのヒエログリフ文字が何に対応しているのかをじっくりみるのも楽しいものです。 こちらを下の方にスクロールしていくと、Xにツイートできるようです。（私はしてません） ...
