Pocos días atrás tuve la oportunidad de observar un video cuyo protagonista era Néstor Lorenzo, actual director técnico de la selección de fútbol de Colombia que acaba de terminar segunda en la Copa América disputada en Estados Unidos mostrando un excelente juego y dejando en el camino a rivales de mejor ranking mundial y mayores pergaminos como Brasil y Uruguay.
En ese video, Lorenzo trajo a la memoria una entrevista realizada a Ricardo Bochini, ese exquisito número 10 de Independiente de Avellaneda que hizo una dupla extraordinaria con otro gran jugador llamado Daniel Bertoni, ambos titulares en la formación de 1973 cuando obtuvieron su primera copa Intercontinental ante la Juventus de Italia ganando por 1 a 0 la final disputada en Roma. En la mencionada entrevista le preguntaron a Bochini como hacía para jugar tan bien y el respondió: "trato de ubicarme en sectores donde no tengo marca y se la paso al que está libre".
Otro video que anda circulando en las redes tiene como protagonista a Scaloni, viajando en un vehículo por las calles de Qatar luego de la derrota de la selección Argentina ante Arabia Saudita, allí dice que la competencia tiene victorias y derrotas, que hay que saber convivir con ambas y que cuando aceptemos esa realidad, el fútbol será más deporte y menos drama. No se estaba justificando porque en ese mismo video advierte que esa derrota dolorosa e inesperada se podría convertir en una fuerza arrolladora si se resurgía y se hilvanaban victorias.
¡Qué sencillo sería el fútbol si los actores solo se dedicaran a jugar y el resto de los protagonistas a mirar y disfrutar! Como muchas otras cosas en la vida, un deporte tan sencillo y bello se ha complejizado hasta lo indecible.
Esto me hace recordar mis comienzos en la informática, en aquella época solo existían un puñado de lenguajes para manejar los computadores y obtener resultados muy similares a los que se observan hoy en día, para aquellos que no conocen los detalles de la computación, puedo decirles que la cantidad de lenguajes, sistemas operativos, plataformas de desarrollo y otras cuestiones del rubro se han multiplicado, al menos por decenas. En esos años vimos los primeros síntomas de la complejización, se mencionaba que IBM, la principal empresa informática de aquel tiempo, tenía un axioma irrenunciable: "para que lo vamos a hacer sencillo si lo podemos complicar".
En el fútbol ha ocurrido algo similar, no solamente han cambiado las técnicas de preparación física, entrenamiento y estrategias sino otros aspectos que poco tienen que ver con el deporte, ahora la información viaja muy rápido, tenemos satélites, la web, las redes sociales; ahora es más importante el exhibicionismo, el vedetismo, el histrionismo y todos los ismos que se les ocurran y no solo en los jugadores, también en muchos directores técnicos, dirigentes, periodistas y por supuesto en el público, que se contagia de tanta verborragia y demostración de preeminencia, real o ficticia.
Todos vemos jugadores que son más actores de cine que protagonistas de un encuentro deportivo, peinados y colores exóticos, joyas, tatuajes, vestimenta, para llamar la atención, exclusivamente. Pocos reparan en que lo mejor sería hacerse notar por el buen juego, no por si el tatuaje es más lindo y más grande que el del rival o el del propio compañero de equipo. Todos los jugadores fingen faltas que los dejan al borde de la internación en terapia intensiva, cuando no existieron o solo fueron un leve toque en un deporte que es de contacto. Los técnicos exageran con ampulosidad cualquier fallo del árbitro como si ese fuera el motivo por el cual pierden el partido, destacan injusticias y errores ajenos disimulando los propios. Los periodistas despotrican o hacen pronósticos altisonantes sin importarles si se van a cumplir o no, el prestigio ya no es más el eje central, ahora pasa por el exhibicionismo, sin importa el contenido. Los dirigentes, bueno, daría más para escribir un libro que un artículo.
Muchos de los protagonistas del mundo del fútbol se inmiscuyen en temas que no son propios, habla de política, asuntos raciales y sociales, también en publicidades de todo tipo, incluyendo los sitios de apuestas, por ejemplo. Todos son millonarios o aspiran a serlos. Todos hablan del resto, sin observar que también ellos en demasiados casos tienen la cocina sucia, para decirlo de manera elegante.
Mientras tanto la gente común, los que amamos el deporte y observamos cándidamente el espectáculo olvidándonos de lo malo que lo rodea, somos los que mantenemos la rueda girando.
En medio de la alegría y el festejo por la obtención de una nueva copa América, las palabras de Bochini, recordadas por Lorenzo me llevaron a dejar por un rato el entusiasmo y a reflexionar sobre cómo se llegó a esto; no tengo respuestas, ni siquiera un diagnóstico, solo describo los síntomas de una enfermedad que estas simples palabras me hicieron notar.
Hay esperanza, necesitamos más personas como Lorenzo, Bochini y Scaloni que rescaten la simpleza del fútbol.
¿Y si volvemos a la idea de ocupar espacios libres para pasarle la pelota al que está libre? Qué lindo volvería a ser todo.

How simple football would be if the actors only dedicated themselves to playing and the rest of the protagonists just watched and enjoyed! Like many other things in life, such a simple and beautiful sport has become unspeakably complex.
This makes me remember my beginnings in computing, at that time there were only a handful of languages to manage computers and obtain results very similar to those observed today, for those who do not know the details of computing, I can tell you that the number of languages, operating systems, development platforms and other issues in the field have multiplied, at least by dozens. In those years we saw the first symptoms of complexity, it was mentioned that IBM, the main computer company of that time, had an inalienable axiom: "so we are going to make it simple if we can complicate it."
Something similar has happened in football, not only have physical preparation techniques, training, and strategies changed, but also other aspects that have little to do with sport, now information travels very quickly, and we have satellites, the web, and social networks; Now exhibitionism, vedetism, histrionics and all the isms that occur to them are more important and not only in the players but also in many technical directors, leaders, journalists and of course in the public, who are infected by so much verbiage and demonstration of preeminence, real or fictitious.
We all see players who are more movie actors than protagonists of a sporting event, with exotic hairstyles and colors, jewelry, tattoos, and clothing, to attract attention, exclusively. Few realize that the best thing would be to be noticed for good play, not for whether the tattoo is prettier and bigger than that of the rival or one's teammate. All players fake fouls that leave them on the verge of being admitted to intensive care when they did not exist or were only a light touch in a contact sport. The coaches grandly exaggerate any referee's failure as if that were the reason why they lost the game, highlighting injustices and other people's mistakes while hiding their own. Journalists rant or make high-sounding predictions without caring if they are going to come true or not, prestige is no longer the central axis, now it involves exhibitionism, regardless of the content. The leaders, well, I would give more to write a book than an article.
Many of the protagonists in the soccer world interfere in topics that are not their own, talking about politics, racial and social issues, and advertising of all kinds, including betting sites. They are all millionaires or aspire to be one. Everyone talks about the rest, without observing that they also have a dirty kitchen in too many cases, to put it elegantly.
Meanwhile, ordinary people, those of us who love sport and candidly observe the spectacle, forgetting about the bad things that surround it, are the ones who keep the wheels turning.
Amid the joy and celebration of winning a new America's Cup, Bocchini's words, remembered by Lorenzo, led me to leave my enthusiasm for a while and reflect on how it came to this; I have no answers, not even a diagnosis, I am only describing the symptoms of a disease that these simple words made me notice.
There is hope, we need more people like Lorenzo, Bochini, and Scaloni to rescue the simplicity of football.
What if we return to the idea of occupying free spaces to pass the ball to whoever is free? How nice everything would be again.
