Beautiful life!
It's a drizzly and windy morning up here at Mom's. It's been so since yesterday which we find odd but people like it anyway as the rain showers prevent frost that damages veggies, like in some towns where farms were frozen and the crops withered the next day when the sun was up.
Thankfully, the temperature is better here (12°C), a little warmer than when we were in DD. Plus Mom's room is heated so it feels comfy.
Anyhow, today's photostory is about the artwork photographed on the walls of St. Catherine School in Bambang. The paintings featured Dr. Jose Rizal, one of the historical figures in the country, a national hero for his peaceful fight for freedom during the Spanish regime through his writings and essays. Accordingly, his death sparked the Philippine Revolution.

The works were done on the 22nd of March 2019, by four artists indicated on the wall (Dexter Bigayan, Ferdinand Hermoso, Kalikasan Bangunan, and Benjamin Andres).

This was the whole piece in one of the walls. Unfortunately, sculptures and a white bench were blocking some portion of it.

The artworks depicted his life and if I'm not mistaken, some were the characters of his novels, Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) and El Filibusterismo (The Subversive or The Reign of Greed) written in Europe, both critiquing the corruption of Spanish friars and the injustices or oppression faced by Filipinos during colonial rule).

The paintings were found on the outer wall of one of the school buildings. The artwork on the left side showed Rizal's execution where he was shot in the back by a firing squad.

For whatever reason, we didn't take a photo of the whole artwork on the left wall and only had this and the first pic on this post to show.

But yes, they are great works that show an important piece of history. Accordingly, during his execution, he refused to be blindfolded and demanded to face the executioners but was denied. And upon hearing the commander’s shout of “Fuego (Fire),” he turned to face the firing squad. He fell face up and before his last breath, he uttered “Consummatum est (It is finished).”(src)
I must admit that although his story and books were part of our subjects in high school, my memory has somehow faded so I stand to be corrected if I presented any wrong information here.
Thank you and here's to wishing everyone a fantastic Friday.
