It's a stormy Tuesday on our side of the world. Tropical Storm Yagi is visiting and is raging in some parts of the country. The rain hasn't stopped since yesterday afternoon and our region is under a yellow signal warning, so we are on alert as intermittent rains can cause landslides or soil erosion here in the mountainside. We are quite relieved that it is not windy.
We are hoping the current typhoon won't intensify or it will affect many people, especially those in low-lying areas where flash flooding is common. As of this morning, we learned that another storm entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and the forecast mentioned we should expect more rain in the next 2-3 days.
So to my fellow Hivers living in the areas being visited by Yagi, keep safe and stay warm!
Meanwhile, it's time for our Tuesday tunes which had become a part of our weekly postings for the triple T (Three Tune Tuesday) initiative by Ablaze.
Olivia Rodrigo, a young Filipino-American actress/singer/songwriter has been on my draft for a while. I included her on my list after stumbling upon her songs and playing them one lazy afternoon. If you are a Disney fan, you may have seen her in the High School Musical, The Musical: The Series, and on Bizaardvark.
She shifted her career focus to recording and has been releasing singles and albums since 2021. The track below was her debut single which peaked in the Billboard Hot 100. Let's hear already, shall we?
Drivers License
A mix of sentimental ballad, alternative pop, and power pop styles with poignant lyrics which accordingly, she co-wrote with Dan Nigro.
When I came up with 'Drivers License', I was going through a heartbreak that was so confusing to me, so multifaceted. Putting all those feelings into a song made everything seem so much simpler and clearer—and at the end of the day, I think that's the whole purpose of songwriting. There’s nothing like sitting at the piano in my bedroom and writing a really sad song. It’s truly my favorite thing in the world. (src)
The single won her a Grammy in 2022 as Best Pop Solo Performance and was also nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The same track made Olivia the youngest artist to debut atop the US Billboard 100 chart. What an achievement for a young gal!
The next song is yet another breakup-inspired. Accordingly, the lyrics express Olivia's anguish about her ex-lover "repeating the same things they did in his new relationship."
DeJa Vu
I kinda like the beat of this one - with various pop styles (midtempo, psychedelic pop, pop rock, art pop, indie pop) and had influences of alternative music as well.
The song was number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100, making Oliva the first artist to debut their first two singles in the chart's top 10. It peaked at number 3 eventually. It was also in the Top 10 in other countries like Ireland, Australia, Canada, etc.
And here's the third and final track for the day from the same artist.
All I Want
This was a promotional single in 2019 for the High School Musical. The pop ballad peaked at #90 on the US Billboard 100. Accordingly, it was a trend on TikTok and said to be the most successful hit from the High School Musical, The Musical: The Series. It led to Olivia's record deal and debut album, Drivers License. What a nice fall of events and circumstances :)
And with that, I end my recommendation for TTT. Hope you enjoyed any of them :) Thank you and have a fantastic day!
