We had cool weather on Wednesday so it was a nice time for a little walk. I left my Lil Guy at home and trekked up the hill without any specific plan on what to do but it was a perfect time to freshen up my head and give my eyes a good break after spending most of the morning in front of the screen.
Taking the long route, I was horrified to see this part of the farms. The whole field is overflowing with weeds. It's crazy how they grew so fast. If my memory is right, it's just been over a month since I last passed by that area, and it was cleaner then. It felt like I had been away for so long, lol!
Anyhoo, keeping my pace, I continued my stroll and noticed something colorful above my head. Wild berries! I'd say these are our native raspberries.
I checked with Google Lens for confirmation and it identified it as Rubus Probus or Atherton Raspberry. Other articles refer to it as Helidon Hills Raspberry. These are quite common here and even in the other towns. I usually find some of them when hiking in the woods above the Lil Kingdom.
Yep, I picked one of the ripe fruits and ate it right then and there. It was sweet! I left the rest for the birds, lol! I assume they don't like it for if they did, nothing would be left as the feathered friends are plenty around here.
After enjoying the piece, I moved on and found something interesting along the steep unpaved path (I prefer taking less-paved routes when I'm not in the mood to meet people on the way).
Taking a closer look, it's silvery grey! It made me wonder why it is alone there. Maybe it's a widow, lol!
Kidding aside, it's my first time seeing this type of mushroom and I am unsure if it's edible. As always, no touching! Even when taking photos. That's my unwritten rule anyway. I don't want to bother it. Also, I'm afraid it might be poisonous😅
But yeah, the gills are beautifully layered on the underside of the cap.
From there, I started climbing with the thought of visiting the spot where we had different finds during a Sunday hike months ago. But then I got distracted by the hubby's call saying lunch was ready. He's got to be kidding me! I was just warming up and enjoying my time up there, lol!
Well, I had no choice but to retrace my way and return to the house or the food will get cold. My stroll was cut short so until next time! Perhaps by then, I will go farther and discover some more!
