Thursday's Visits

Magandang buhay

We went to my in-law's place today after coming from Mom's. After spending over 3 hours there, we left just before midday for my appointment with the dentist.

Of course, I wouldn't miss taking photos from one of my favorite spots as we traversed the narrow village road leading to the main highway. Yongi was looking out the window as usual. There were two big dogs along that route and he went ballistic howling at them. The Farmboy couldn't stop laughing at the way they ran away as if our Lil Guy was going after them.😅

As we approached the main road, I received a message from the dentist saying she would see me at 1 pm. Thank goodness it allowed us some time to have lunch because we were famished. We stopped by Hal's for a quick meal and parked in front of my sister's clinic (just beside the resto). I went in to invite her to join us but she was busy she said "Next time."

Anyway, we didn't have to check the menu and just ordered the house's main dish (Hal's Rice) because we didn't want to wait longer.

We noticed that the portions are getting less these days. The hubby thinks it might be their way of keeping the price instead of maintaining the serving sizes and then initiating an increase in pricing like the other food places are doing.

The platter includes a cup of red rice, two slices of fried pork, a piece of chicken leg, and Pancit. The dish comes with complementary soup which is nice. Since I was going to the dentist after the meal, I only ate a little and had my leftovers for takeout. I then fed them to Yongi soon after because he had not eaten since morning. He loved the chicken!

From there, went straight to the dentist and I was glad there were no other people, unlike last weekend when there was a queue so I rescheduled my visit. I had two of my teeth extracted (canine and one of my premolars which were damaged by my permanent dentures).

We came home to DD afterward and bought ice cream along the way (cold treats usually stop the bleeding). In my excitement, I didn't take any photos of the hubby's cookies 'n cream mini pint and my ube-flavored drumstick. But yes, we enjoyed them!

Meanwhile, it's already past 8 pm and I'm still nursing my swollen gums. I could barely eat anything but it's okay, I'll live, lol!😅

Until tomorrow :)

That hal rice looks like a rice grown by our Highland brother and sister in Benguet. To maintain that texture and color, these rice manually pounded using a traditional way to extract rice out of its husk. By the way salamat kabayan.

I don't know if the rice is grown in Benguet as I haven't seen any rice fields around. I actually thought they were from the nearby provinces😊 Salamuch din, kabayan😉

It's also available in department stores, however, the aroma of the rice from department store is far more different with the one one harvested and process manually by our farmers.

Yes, they do sell them in the local markets too. It would be awesome to see how they harvest and process them manually.

I personally experienced how this upland rice is being harvested. It's manually taking it stalk by stalk using any sharpened hand tool. Then it is store in bundles to air dry naturally.

The dried bundle of rice on the stalk will manually remove using your feet. You literally stepped into the rice bundle and mill it using your feet. At first, it is bit itchy but over time you'll feet feel numb due to milling process and the itchy feeling go away.

After the manual milling, the pounding begins, using a curved stone and a specially designed wood to pound it. It took several times of pounding to extract the rice grain from it husk.

Finally, using Bilao to separate the husk from the rice or by using the power of wind. Yeah it's a hard labor but it worth.

Oh wow, that must truly be an experience! You're fortunate to have done it 💖

I have done it twice in Ifugao.

Just as I thought :) Hope to experience it too someday :)

Sorry about your teeth extract, wish you quick recovery.
The food combination is looks tasty 😋

Thank you my !LADY💗

The rice was okay :)

Tooth removal can be very painful but I wish you a quick recovery
Also, I’m in love with that Rice
It looks tasty

It wasn't painful during the extraction as the gum had been injected with anesthesia. The pain is felt hours later, lol!

Hope you are having a wonderful day, !LADY💗

Yes the weather is much better here now 😃

That's good to hear. It's gloomy here today. The rain may come early

Glad you're fine now after extracting your tooth ❤️
And this is my first time hearing about red rice. Do they add colouring inside the rice while cooking to give it that colour or?

Thank you, Meya. The rice is natural, with no added food coloring. It's actually purplish but I don't know why they call it red rice

The village looks beautiful at least I can say that seeing the view you shared. Such a scenario can give a relaxing vibe.
In the case of food, it looks delicious. I am sure you enjoyed it. And you are right the portion of restaurant food is decreasing to maintain the balance with the rising price of product.
