Difficult Conversations

It is normal for me to have at least one package of coffee in my pantry. However, there are times when I get careless and I only have enough coffee left for the day's preparation. This is almost never a problem since near my house there are two small grocery stores where I can get some of the brands of coffee I like.

But these days something unusual happened to me, I had already checked and I only had a small portion of coffee left, just enough to prepare the first coffee of the morning, which only my wife drinks, my custom is to drink it in the afternoon. My plan was to go shopping mid-morning the next day.

But at about eight in the evening I received a call from two of my daughter's young friends who wanted to talk to me, they asked me if they could come to my house. I thought that because of the time it must be something important. I did not hesitate to say yes since one of them is going through a very difficult process, he recently lost one of his legs in a motorcycle accident and is facing, with a lot of courage, the difficult process of adapting to this new condition.

At about 8:15 pm the boys arrived, we settled on my porch and began to talk. After the usual greetings and the preliminaries to ask how my daughter was doing in the other country, we got into the subject they wanted to discuss.

Before the accident one of them had made plans to go abroad with his girlfriend, they had bought the tickets and all the necessary documentation for the trip. But the accident had completely changed the scenario and that was what they wanted to talk about, asking my opinion on what would be the best decision.

The problem was very complex, there were several things to consider. In the other country he would be more likely to get better advice on his adaptation process, perhaps he could find more attention in his rehabilitation and probably easier to get the prosthesis that would give him more autonomy in his life. In our country everything related to health is pretty bad and prostheses are very, very expensive.

But arriving in a strange country, without a supportive family and without being able to move around properly could become a big problem. We had to take into account that his girlfriend would not have the time to take care of him or to take him places. We all know that those early days as immigrants are quite difficult and require a full-time commitment to get ahead.

As our conversation was dragging on I told the guys that I would go make some coffee, I had forgotten that I had very little left. There was not enough in the container for the three cups I needed. At that time the grocery stores were already closed. The solution was given to me by my wife, I would go to my sister-in-law's, a few houses away from ours, to ask her for a few spoonfuls of coffee.

I had never before made coffee mixing different brands, but at the time it was the only option.

I made the preparation with the expectation of how the result would be, I would be very embarrassed to offer the boys a bad coffee. But to my surprise the result was better than I expected, the blended coffee had a very pleasant taste.

I poured the cups, the boys took a first sip and looked at each other's faces. They commented that it was very good. I was really glad they liked it.

We talked for about half an hour more and at the end I had the impression that they were leaving more relaxed than when they arrived, we tried to analyze all the variables as objectively as possible.

The trip was still a long month away. I thought it would be best for the boy to stay, even though it might mean the breakup of the relationship with his girlfriend. But I did not insist on the subject.

A few days ago I received another call, the day of the trip had already passed. My daughter's young friend told me that he had stayed. I supported him by telling him that he had made the best decision. Now he is busy moving forward in the process of his adaptation. In addition, we are looking for alternatives to achieve the prosthesis, the big goal for the next few months.

Sometimes it is inevitable to have difficult conversations, which are lighter if a cup of coffee is involved. Please make sure you don't lack it in your pantry, and in case you need it, don't hesitate to mix it.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you so much my dear friend.

A veces los planes cambian de manera drástica como le pasó a este chico, comparto tu opinion en haberse quedado, así podrán recuperarse y prepararse para la prótesis...que bueno que conseguiste la mezcla para un buen café, saludos!

It is very unfortunate what happened to that boy. We are now providing all possible support to help him adapt to the new situation.

The mixing thing may be a great invention, hahaha.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting dear @aventurerasbike . A big hug.

Hello my friend.

Hahaha... Thank goodness everything turned out well, in that coffee preparation, I'm very glad.

And how nice that the guy decided to stay, to do the deligences and so with your help, get the prosthesis, even if it results in the breakup with his girlfriend, I think that if she wants it, she will understand the reason.

Thank you for sharing your story with us.

We are knocking on many doors for the prosthesis. With God's favor it will be done. Thank you for stopping by and commenting dear @maleidamarcano . A big hug from Maracay.
