Hello, everyone. I am excited to be here! My name is Jessica Ajisafe, and I go by the pen name J.A. Quill.
J and A are the initials of my name, but the “Quill” comes from the traditional writing instrument—a writing tool made from a moulted flight feather of a large bird—which has a timeless elegance that resonates with me. Since I couldn’t use “J.A. Quill” as my username, I opted for “jaquill.” It’s just a fusion of my pen name but the pronunciation is different.
I stumbled upon this platform through a fortunate encounter with @samiwrites. It happened during a casual conversation among friends. To be honest, I wasn’t entirely paying attention at first. I was seated a little apart from him and one of my other friends, caught up in my own thoughts.
Suddenly, he asked my friend about the progress of what she was doing, to which she replied. He then turned to face me and asked, “What do you do?” I hesitated for a moment before replying, “I’m into content writing, and I am also a virtual assistant.” By the way, I had just completed a virtual assistant program and was still navigating my path in that field.
The discussion took an interesting turn when Dr. Sam (that’s how I address @samiwrites) asked, “Oh, so you write content? You don’t use ChatGPT or Quillbot, do you?” To be honest I was expecting that, but I responded with, “No, I don’t.”
He told me I need to write original content, I told him I could do that. He seemed intrigued and asked me about the kind of content I’d written so far. I explained that I had mostly been writing for my sister, who is also a content writer.
Dr. Sam then introduced me to Hive, explaining how it works and why it could be an excellent platform for someone like me. A few days later, with his help I created an account, and here I am!
That’s the backstory of how I found myself here. Now, let me dive a little deeper into who I am.
Once again, I’m Jessica Ajisafe, and I hail from Osun State, located in the Western region of Nigeria. I’m the youngest in a family of five—a position that comes with its own blend of joys and challenges. I’m currently a philosophy major at Nigeria’s prestigious University of Ibadan—the first university in Nigeria.
Philosophy has taught me to think critically, explore abstract concepts, and appreciate diverse perspectives, all of which significantly influence my writing.
Writing, for me, is a journey—a process of self-discovery and growth. I wouldn’t call myself an expert, but I’m committed to honing my craft.
I’ve realized that mastery comes with consistent practice, a willingness to learn, and the courage to embrace constructive feedback.
Every sentence I write is a step forward, and every story is an opportunity to connect with others.
Outside of writing, I enjoy exploring topics that pique my curiosity, from history and literature and creative arts. I believe that inspiration can come from the most unexpected places, so I try to remain open to new ideas and experiences.
When I’m not immersed in my studies or writing projects, you can find me indulging in my other interests, such as reading novels, listening to music, or engaging in meaningful conversations.
My dream is to use my voice and words to inspire, inform, and empower others. I hope to build a writing portfolio that spans various genres, from thoughtful essays to creative fiction.
Joining a community like this feels like an exciting step toward that goal. It’s not just about showcasing my work but also about learning from the talented individuals here and forming connections that could lead to mutual growth.
I believe that writing is a universal language that transcends borders and backgrounds. It allows us to share our unique perspectives while finding common ground with others.
That’s why I’m so excited to be here—to learn, grow, and contribute in my own way.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. I look forward to engaging with this wonderful community and embarking on this new chapter of my writing journey.
