El circuito callejero de Marina Bay, en Singapur, es probablemente uno de los duros de todo el calendario, primero por lo largo, por el trazado de la pista y por la condiciones climáticas. Ayer y durante todo el fin de semana la humedad hizo estragos en el físico de todo aquel que estuviera por los alrededores sin hablar de los propios pilotos como por ejemplo Russell dijo que estar dentro del carro era estar en un sauna. Esto lo digo porque ya de por si correr este premio tiene cierto mérito, si a esto le sumamos la perfección de carrera que hizo Norris el día de ayer pues sin dudas estamos ante la consagración de un piloto que obviamente ya sabemos el potencial que tiene y su proyección al futuro.
The street circuit of Marina Bay, in Singapore, is probably one of the toughest of the entire calendar, first because of its length, the layout of the track and the weather conditions. Yesterday and throughout the weekend the humidity wreaked havoc on the physique of everyone who was around, not to mention the drivers themselves, as for example Russell said that being inside the car was like being in a sauna. I say this because running this award already has some merit, if we add to this the perfect race that Norris did yesterday, we are undoubtedly in front of the consecration of a driver that obviously we already know the potential he has and his projection for the future.
Pero ayer hubo un "villano" en esta historia, uno que no le permitió al joven británico llevarse el Grand Slam (pole, carrera y vuelta más rápida), Daniel Ricciardo, piloto que terminó en el fondo de la clasificación en su última vuelta le dio una mano a Verstappen y le arrebató la vuelta más veloz a Lando con unas gomas blandas. Evidentemente esto no le quita ningún mérito a lo hecho por el piloto de McLaren ya que fue una carrera la cual se estaba esperando de él desde hace mucho tiempo. Desde las prácticas de los viernes ya estábamos viendo que ambos pilotos del equipo "papaya" venían imponiéndose ampliamente, por allí vimos a un Verstappen que parece que recuperó algo de terreno en pista este fin de semana y a unos Mercedes que sorpresivamente dieron la talla también, no se puede decir lo mismo de Ferrari.

Si hay algo que está teniendo esta temporada es juego, sobre todo entre Ferrari y Mercedes. En algunos premios vemos dominancia de los italianos, en otros de los ingleses; pareciera que no terminan de dar con la mejora que les permita tener siempre el mismo desempeño. Claro que esto no es tan fácil porque la cantidad de factores que hay en juego son muchísimos, tanto externos como del propio carro, pero esa ha sido la constante esta temporada. En la pole position del sábado vimos un claro ejemplo de esto. Hamilton y Russell terminaron terceros y cuartos respectivamente mientras que Leclerc culminó noveno y Sainz en la Q3 tuvo un accidente, se estrelló contra las defensas, en un un error claramente suyo, y no pudo siquiera terminar esa última ronda; salió de décimo.
If there is something that this season is having, it is a game, especially between Ferrari and Mercedes. Hoy por hoy son los carros más veloces y mejores equilibrados de toda la Fórmula 1, se parecen al RB19 del año pasado. Con esto en mente iniciaba la carrera ayer, pero con una preocupación, ¿cual? - el momento de la partida. Lando Norris en varias oportunidades en su estadía en la máxima competición ha logrado la pole pero cuando llegaba al apagado de luces siempre ocurría algo y perdía la posición. Y esa amigos, era la deuda pendiente de él, lograr mantener el primer puesto. Afortunadamente lo logró, tuvo una salida limpia logrando contener a un Verstappen que en un 99% sale perfecto. Era importante porque las primeras curvas de este circuito son muy cerradas y el riesgo era grande de que saliera algo mal.

A pesar de tener 4 zonas de DRS esta pista es complicada para sobrepasar al otro, quizás en una sola de esas 4 es donde se puede hacer algo. Lo digo porque no vimos muchos adelantamientos, fue una carrera altamente estratégica en donde la gestión y desempeño de las gomas jugaron un papel crucial. Hacer una parada, dos paradas, con que gomas salir; ahí estaba el dilema. A algunos les salió bien, a otros no tanto (Hamilton por ejemplo que salió con blandas) y que cada carro se adapta mejor a los neumáticos que otros. Lando Norris demostró el verdadero poderío de McLaren al sacarle casi 30 segundos de ventaja a Verstappen, el mantener ser líder le permitió ir con aire limpio y demostrar lo que de verdad tiene ese carro. Además de la buena carrera que hizo, no cometiendo errores, administrando bien los cauchos; creo que fue una de las mejores exhibiciones que ha dado Norris.
Despite having 4 DRS zones this track is complicated to overtake each other, maybe in only one of those 4 is where you can do something. I say this because we didn't see many overtakes, it was a highly strategic race where the management and performance of the tires played a crucial role. Doing one stop, two stops, with which tires to go out; that was the dilemma. Some did well, others not so well (Hamilton for example, who went out with soft) and each car adapts better to the tires than others. En términos generales, fue una carrera muy larga, tediosa a veces pero muy interesante. Ambos McLaren en el podio para seguir sumando puntos en el campeonato de constructores; Verstappen se vio mejor pero lejos de la mejor versión de Red Bull; Ferrari y Mercedes mezclados entre la cuarta y la séptima posición y el Cheo Perez décimo, ahí se fueron puntos importantes para Red Bull. Buena carrera de nuevo de Colapinto que aunque quedó fuera de los puntos para ser la primera vez que corría acá se le vio muy seguro y rápido. Si Lando Norris sigue descontando puntos es probable que para el final de la temporada tengamos una definición apretada por el campeonato, son 52 puntos de distancia para 6 carreras que faltan. Ahora tendremos un break de tres semanas para aterrizar en Austin, Estados Unidos.
Overall, it was a very long race, tedious at times but very interesting. Both McLaren on the podium to continue scoring points in the constructors championship; Verstappen looked better but far from the best version of Red Bull; Ferrari and Mercedes mixed between fourth and seventh position and Cheo Perez tenth, there were important points for Red Bull. Good race again by Colapinto who, although he was out of the points for being the first time he raced here, he was very confident and fast. If Lando Norris keeps deducting points it is likely that by the end of the season we will have a tight definition for the championship, there are 52 points left for 6 races to go. Now we will have a three-week break to land in Austin, USA.
