Shopping on a Saturday

Morgan always shopped for groceries every Friday. She would close from work, and on her way home, she would stop at the market and get the things she needed for the weekend and the coming week. It had been a routine until that very day; she was tied up in a meeting that had lasted for 7 hours, and by the time she was done, she was so tired that she couldn't even feel her legs. She managed to drive herself home, and when she drove past the mart, she figured it would be too stressful for her to shop that evening with the whole sluggish feeling she was having, so she decided to shop the next day, which would be a Saturday.

"Hey babe, you look pale. How was work today?" Johnny, Morgan's husband, asked her as she walked into the house. He gave her a brief hug and helped her with her bag, thus making her smile weakly.

"I've never been this stressed out at work. I was tied up in a meeting. How about the kids?" Morgan replied and walked up the stairs to their room.
Johnny went with her.

"They should probably be in their room." He replied.

"How about you? Were there any emergencies today at the hospital?" She asked him.

"Not really. The hospital was unusually calm today, and that was good 'cause I had enough time to check on the other patients, and I returned home early." Johnny replied.

"Good for you. I'll run a quick shower and then prepare dinner." Morgan said.

"Don't bother with it. I already did that." He replied.

"Whoa, you're such a darling, my dear husband." Morgan said and hugged him.

"I noticed that you didn't shop today, or did you perhaps leave them in the car?" Johnny asked.

"It was late, and I was tired, so I couldn't stop and get the groceries. But I'll head there tomorrow." Morgan replied and went in to take a shower.

Dawn broke, and the family woke up to the sunrise. It was Saturday, and Saturdays were a day of rest for everyone, except if an emergency came up at the hospital that required Johnny's attention.
Morgan gave chores to the kids to do, and she prepared breakfast for the family. When they were done eating, she went up to their bedroom and took her bath, then she prepared for the grocery shopping.

"Do you need an accompany?" Johnny asked her.

"John, don't be silly. I can go by myself; besides, you don't know what might come up at the hospital." Morgan laughed as she replied to him.

The both of them walked back to the sitting room, where the kids were seated, watching the television.
"Mom, could you get me Pringles from the store?" Gina, her eldest daughter, asked her.

"I'll try. Take care of your siblings and the house. Dad would be home with you, unless something comes up at the hospital." Morgan told them and left the house.

Morgan has never gone grocery shopping on a Saturday, so she had no idea how crowded it could be. When she stepped out of her car and heard the noise coming from the market, she wondered if something had happened. She saw a passerby and decided to ask, so she would be sure if the shopping was a possibility or if she should rather head back home.

"Hi, excuse me; did something happen over there? The noise is too much today." She asked the lady that had walked past her.

"Haven't you been here on a Saturday?" The lady asked her, and Morgan shook her head. "Well, it's usually very crowded on Saturdays, as people from different places come here to buy stuff. I've been here since 6 am, and I just got what I came for now." The lady responded and walked away.

Morgan checked the time; it was 9 am. She wondered if the lady was telling the truth about spending 3 hours at the market just to get the little things she had with her. She shrugged her shoulder and sought out her favorite shop, then she walked towards it.
As she got close, she noticed a long line that had been formed there. She decided to ignore the stare that the buyers were giving her as she walked past them and headed to the seller's counter, but the yell she got from the angry shoppers froze her.

"Hey lady, what are you trying to do?" A voice shouted.

"You want to play smart with us." Another voice yelled.

"You better get back here and join the line." An angry male voice yelled, and Morgan turned to see the person.

"The line's back here; you can't just maneuver your way through this." Someone else said to her.

Morgan felt so embarrassed, she wanted the grounds to open, so she could fall in and hide there. She walked to the end of the line and joined, but the angry stares she was still getting from them made her uncomfortable. It felt like they were talking about her, so she decided to leave the shop and head elsewhere, where she hadn't been seen.

She got to another shop and joined the line there. Morgan spent close to four hours in the market before getting what she had come for. She even forgot the Pringles she had promised to get her daughter, but she wouldn't dare to go back for it and spend another hour in line, so she drove home, feeling more exhausted than she had been after her work the other day.

A beautiful family tale you narrate here. Morgan is portrayed as a calm understanding woman who handles responsibility and pressure really well despite her demanding work, and the husband? Well, not any different from her.

Nice✨

Thanks for the kind words 😊

Market full with the piles of fruits and vegetables is so captivating.

Yeah, it is

This is an interesting one, well done. I could feel her embarrassment while I read, I would have died in shame if it were me. 😂

Thanks for reading 😊😊
