Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle that I had with Chaos Dragon.
Featured cards
Chaos Dragon is a dragon splinter that costs 14 mana. It starts off with the flying and scattershot ability. It learns blast at level 2 and blind at level 3. This is one of my few gold foil legendary cards that I got from opening packs so I look fondly at it. I only have this card at level 2.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Briar Patch and Might Makes Right. This means that only monsters with an attack of 3 or higher can be used and all monsters gain the thorns ability. There is also 34 mana and I can choose every splinter except for earth.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Quix the Devious | 4 | Summoner | -1 speed and ranged attack |
Halfling Refugee | 1 | 1st | |
Magi of Chaos | 6 | 2nd | |
Chaos Dragon | 14 | 3rd | Flying, Scattershot and Blast |
Dhampir Stalker | 7 | 4th | True Strike |
Total Mana: | 32 |
I use Quix the Devious as my summoner for the -1 ranged attack and speed. Since the ruleset is against melee monsters, I choose to deal with ranged and magic monsters instead. My tank is Halfling Refugee because it has a low mana cost and decent health. After that is my backup tank Magi of Chaos and in my 3rd spot is Chaos Dragon for the damage. The scattershot gives it a chance to hit 3 monsters. My last monster is Dhampir Stalker for some extra damage.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match could go either way. It depends on whether or not I can kill that bloodlust monster before it stacks too much or I die from it.
Round 3
Both me and my opponent both lost one monster. However, I think that I have the advantage now because my opponent's bloodlust monster will die in 2 turns regardless of what happens due to the blast. As I won't miss, I will win this match eventually because of the thorns dealing damage to my opponent.
I was able to win the match a few rounds later as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time played out as expected. I used Chaos Dragon as my main damage dealer because of the scattershot and blast. The ruleset was against melee monsters so I opted for ranged or magic monsters to fill my spot. I was lucky with scattershot and killed off the ranged monster early so I was able to take out my opponent without too many issues. Eventually, I won despite the healing ability there as thorns helped me out the healed damage.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
