Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle that I had and it's about the card Harklaw. It's ability was great against all the melee monsters in this fight.
Featured Cards
Harklaw is death monster that starts off with shield. It learns immunity at level 2 and demoralize at level 3. I have mine at level 3 so it has all the abilities that it can have. It works quite well as a tank due to its ability to reduce physical damage.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Up Close & Personal and Tis But Scratches. This means only melee monsters can be used and all monsters gain the cripple ability. There is also 48 mana and I have the choice of fire, earth, or death splinter.
My summoner is Thaddius Brood for its level. This summoner reduces my enemies' magic and health by 1. It also lets me use my cards to their highest level.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Thaddius Brood | 4 | Summoner | -1 Magic and Health |
Harklaw | 8 | 1st | Shield, Immunity and Demoralize |
Pallus | 8 | 2nd | Flying and Reach |
Arkemis the Bear | 12 | 3rd | Protect and Halving |
Disintegrator | 7 | 4th | Demoralize |
Uraeus | 3 | 5th | Sneak and Poison |
Cursed Windeku | 6 | 6th | Thorns and Heal |
Total Mana: | 48 |
I start off with Harklaw as my tank because of immunity, shield, and demoralize. My second monster is a reach monster. I have Arkemis in my 3rd spot for protect. Then I have my 2nd demoralize monster to reduce the melee attack even more. My 5th monster has poison and sneak. My last monster is Cursed Windeku with thorns and heal to deal with the sneak monsters.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. My opponent won't really be able to do much damage to me due to the double demoralize. My tank won't take any damage at all and the Gobson will due to the thorns damage. So the only issue is the opportunity monster that my opponent has.
Round 3
I lost my first monster and I am close to killing off a few more monsters on my opponent. The poison hit the last monster so I won't have to deal with thorns. The opportunity monster is still the only issue but I have a few more times before I see my monster die.
Round 8
I lost my first demoralize monster but my opponent doesn't have any strong melee monsters. So I won't be taking any damage on my tank and I have this match won.
I was able to win the match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. The double demoralize setup worked out well and my tank never took any damage. My opponent couldn't deal much damage and I was able to win over time. I am glad that my Harklaw also had immunity so its health never went down from cripple and it added more buffer.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
