I went to the dentist today because we had a tooth extraction scheduled. (I took someone there and it was not me getting a tooth removed)
I thought it would be a relatively smooth process: cheap, affordable, and straightforward, but I have known a lot of doctors and nothing is ever straightforward with them; they are always goading you to have an extra treatment for preventive measures and that the consequences of not doing so might be dire.
I am not going to say they are liars, but most of the time, their system is implemented to keep you I was surprised to learn that a dentist appointment now costs three times the actual fee, and only in two years. Oh, dear inflation.
Medical Budgeting
This is why you should never budget for hospital expenses, especially if you are the type who gets scared at the slightest provocation. But how many people are not concerned about potential health issues?
Aside from the pain, trauma, discomfort, and stigma associated with health challenges, people want to be free, free of pain and discomfort, and this comes at a cost, which is sometimes unavoidable.
Medical conditions are more than just physiological; they also affect the mind and have the potential to develop into a mental health condition. People would rather be free of their circumstances, and this can expose even the most logical people to financial exploitation.
Everyone can potentially be exploited; all you need to do is prey on their deepest fears, and modern medicine is perfecting this art by the day.
Last year, when I was frequently visiting the hospital, I spent more than five times my initial budget, which was due to the system.
Granted, I am aware that my health condition has some complications that must be treated alongside it, but the majority of the money I paid was due to my fear of what the doctors discussed, which has nothing to do with your financial situation.
Owe The Debt, Stay Alive
People get into debt because of health issues, but why?
Because you get to live, and people will gladly choose to live even if it means incurring debt.
I know hospitals where people are detained because they are unable to pay their bills, and they can stay for months before being able to pay. The system is designed to accommodate debt because removing the option of debt reduces some of the potential income that flows into the healthcare system.
For example, I currently do not have enough money to pay for some of my numerous blood tests, and I cannot incur debts because I lack collateral, and no matter what the doctor says, I simply cannot afford the treatments and tests at this time.
Now, this is not to say that we should not take doctors seriously; most of the time, they are exaggerating the actual condition of something in order to generate revenue.
In Conclusion
Most of the time, second opinions are important; there are doctors who are empathetic and unbiased, but for the most part, it is about money.
Many people are unlucky to have to deal with the things they do, and no one wants to be in a situation that drains their bank account, but life happens, and there is nothing you can do.
