In my last post, I discussed alcohol, and the first (and hopefully the last time) I had a hangover. I find it surprising that some people enjoy drinking alcohol. Since I already shared my personal experience in my last post, I’ll be sharing that of my hostel mate. One interesting thing about alcohol is that it comes with different levels of craziness. Alcohol is like an evil spirit, and the manner in which it possesses people varies from one person to another. For some, they start dancing and showing off their craziness, while for others, they puke, crash, and sleep until the next day. Whichever it is, alcohol reduces your steeze, and composure, especially when you get drunk. Not very demure. Not very mindful. Not cutesy at all.
I've never gotten drunk to the point where I did something crazy. My friends on the other hand have experienced this several times. I don’t want to give the impression that I keep a circle of drunkards. It is just that sometimes we like to try different things. Uhm, we like to explore. This has landed us in trouble many times. Have you or your friends ever done something crazy while drunk? Is it an experience you wish to repeat or something you would never try again?
My friend grew up with strict parents who always kept him indoors because they did not want him to go astray. One thing about people who grow up with strict parents is that they tend to rebel, experiencing all the freedom they never had when they get the slightest chance. My friend had never tasted alcohol until that day. It happened about three years ago when we were taking a school program- JUPEB. He was my friend and hostel mate. In our hostel, whenever it was someone’s birthday, we’d throw a small party in the hostel where we would dance, drink, and play games.
We had been doing this for months, and although my friend joined us in dancing and playing games, he never drank alcohol until that day. His desire to drink seemed to come out of nowhere. No one saw it coming. I guess he got tired of people calling him a “child” because he didn't take alcohol. But that day, he decided to change things. After several warnings from some of the hostel mates, he turned dead ears to them and proceeded to drink the alcohol.
The drink contained 45% alcohol and my friend took just 3 shots. He took two shots consecutively, but when he saw that he could still take more, he took the last 1. Everything seemed alright, not until my hostel mate started acting all crazy. Another interesting thing about alcohol is that it affects people differently. Some people can drink 3 bottles and still maintain their sanity, while others can get drunk from just a little bit. It turned out that my guy had a low tolerance for alcohol.
His craziness gave no warning. Suddenly, he got up and started screaming. At first, we all thought he was kidding around, not until he fell hard on the ground and hit his head. Then we realized that he was in deep trouble. We got him up immediately and saw that his head was bleeding. Luckily, the wound was not deep. I thought that would calm him down, but instead, he became even more hyperactive. He started blabbing nonsensically about different things, he fell hard again. This time, we took him into his room, but he still wouldn't stop talking. He rushed to the bathroom and threw up. He almost vomited his guts.
I'm pretty sure he would never want that experience to repeat itself. Not only did he sustain a wound, but that incident was embarrassing. He earned a nickname in the hostel- 3 shots down.
