I live with my parents, so I don't usually have to provide for myself. However, as a student, I often find myself running out of cash due to the rising cost of living. To make ends meet, I engage in various activities to earn some money.
As an agriculturist, I often participate in school projects where we grow different crops to raise funds. I remember one such project where i and my other coursemates cultivated African spinach. We dedicated time daily to weed and water the plants to ensure they grew well and healthy. Once the spinach matured, we sold it to our teachers. We are not allowed to bring any cooking utensils in my school not to even think of cooking so it wasn’t possible in anyway to sell it to other students in the school because they wouldn't buy it. Although the prices weren't ideal ,but I still managed to make some money, which helped me get by for a short period of time.
However, these activities alone are not enough for me earn a living. While farming can generate some income, especially with the right strategies and scale, it's challenging to rely on it as a sole source of livelihood, especially on a small scale like ours.
The money I earned wasn't enough to sustain me for long term, and I knew my parents were already doing their best by sending me money in school. Even though it wasn't always enough, I didn't want to be a burden by constantly demanding or asking them for more.
This led me to Hive, where I found a platform that allowed me to earn additional income. Hive has been a blessing, and has provided me with the financial support I needed to cover some of my expenses and become more self-reliant. I'm truly grateful for Hive and the opportunities it has given me, thanks to a brother of mine who introduced me to it. With the money I earn from Hive, I've been able to sustain myself both at school and at home.
Now that I'm home, I'm even able to contribute to household expenses, albeit in a small way. I can buy things for myself and cover some of my needs, even if my parents are unable to provide for me. Hive has truly made a difference in my life, helping me earn a living and become more independent.
