My reasons for not choosing to vote in my country.

Voting is the process of selecting individuals who will govern or have authority over the people in a particular country or place."

In Nigeria the minimum age considered worthy to cast a vote is 18 which is the age where a person is considered to already be an adult.

The truth is I am 3 years older than that age and I don't even have a voters card not to even talk of me casting a vote or even voting for anyone contesting for any position in the government.

First of all, the government officials are not trustworthy. It is in Nigeria you would see government candidates promising the people to fix roads, electricity, and making many other promises . Immediately they attain that sit , they wouldn't even consider fulfilling most of those promises. It is only when it is election time that you will see them fixing some bad roads and sharing money as well as palliatives to the people just to deceived them make them believe they are the right choice. They would get to that position and suddenly turn deaf ears to the people and not provide enough social amenities . The truth is I have never fallen for their cheap tricks and it doesn't even move either.

Also, I don't even think the people's vote or safety are even taken into consideration during elections. The organisation in charge of coordinating voting process in Nigeria is INEC and they are filled with corrupt individuals. There are always several cases of snatched ballot boxes here and there and at the end of the day, they end up changing or even manipulating the votes of the people and the ones who where not even really selected by the people attains the sit of the government . Some people have even lost their lives while trying to vote, by hooligans who are most times sent by this same government individuals to interrupt and manipulate the outcome of the elections.

Nigeria is already overempowered by corruption and it's already becoming a very serious issue.

Just imagine a candidate contesting for the sit of president informing his citizens before the elections, that even though you don't vote for me , I will surely become your president and he eventually became the president for real. If you think about it from the bright side , how can you become the president of the people without them voting for you, isn't that going to be through corruption and illegal means??

I didn't say nobody voted for him , some did and they where mostly people from his tribe who believed he would rule the country to their taste and feel they might benefit from him since he is one of them. The truth is that those set of people that believed in him would be against him now and can't even dare to show their face because they would have been going through tough time and hardship in their lives.

Yesterday when I went out to to visit the pharmacy in my city, I was just seeing several cars queuing just to buy petrol , some of them have been there for hours trying to pump their car tank or even put on their generators. There is inflation and there is scarcity of petrol in the country and people are finding it hard to survive under this new government.

We haven't even spent up to 2 good years out of the first 4 years of his tenure and people are already dying of hunger and increase in blood pressure because it's just to hard to survive.

The truth is even after the hardship the people are facing , after he has completed his four years tenure , there will still be another election and he would attain the sit of presidency again, whether the people likes it or not.

So, why don't I want to vote in my country? The answer is simple: I don't believe my vote will really count. The voting process in Nigeria is full of corruption, cheating, and ignoring what the people want. When votes can be stolen, changed, or overlooked, and when leaders are chosen in ways that aren't fair, it makes me question if there's any point in voting. On top of that, even when candidates win, they often fail to keep the promises they made to the people. And let's not forget the safety concerns several people have lost their lives just trying to cast their votes because of violence and chaos during elections. Until I see real changes, honesty, and leaders who will actually keep to their promises, I find it hard to believe that my vote or anyone else's will make a difference.
