The idea of having a family own just a car sounds like like the perfect thing when you look at the advantages it would have on the environment. First of all, it would help reduce the release of toxic gases like carbon dioxide, which causes a lot of damage to the atmosphere. These gases are dangerous to human health and even to plants, so if we can adopt a method to reduce one of the ways they get released, then our environment will be preserved to a large extent. Carbon dioxide and other pollutants to climate change which is a big problem in the world today, so reducing the number of cars on the road would make a big difference.
Also, everyone in a family would definitely love to have their own private cars, but then when a family is allowed to own just one car, they would have to devise other means of transportation to get to their destination. They may have to travel to certain locations by taking cabs or bikes, and this would automatically increase the source of income of those who are bike riders and cab drivers. In addition to supporting the livelihoods of transportation workers, adopting this method could also lead to a more vibrant public transport system, as demand would likely increase. They might also have to take a walk for short trips, which could promote a healthier lifestyle and reduce traffic congestion in urban areas.
But then I can't help but consider its effect, especially on large families. For instance, let’s say there are about 11 people in a family, and then they have to travel a long distance for a ceremony or go on vacation. It's actually not possible for all of them to get into one car. They would have to go through different means, and that would cause them so much discomfort and even stress. There might even be misunderstandings because, of course, everyone in the family would love to go on a trip or travel to a place in their own car. I actually just can't imagine knowing my parents own a car and i would not being able to go with them to the desired location in that particular car. It would actually sound unpleasant and even hurt my feelings.
Also, in a situation where the children in a family are all working , and they have to get to their workplaces as early as 8 a.m. In such a situation, if everyone had their own cars, they could easily get to their offices straight without any difficulty. But when they have only one car, then some of them might have to go to their places of work through public transport. And we all know how hard it is sometimes to find a bike or cab that would take us to our destination on time. In Nigeria especially ,public transport in many areas is often unreliable, overcrowded, or even unavailable. I can't even think of many times where i have spent many minutes before i could get a bike or cab to take me to where i am going. In such situations they might eventually lose their job for always coming to work late and it would actually be more frustrating when you have alot of millions to get youself a car for your own conveniency but you have to wait at the bustop just to get to where you want.
For me, I would say this rule of making every family own just one car wouldn’t favour the families that much. It would actually just make their lives become inconvenient and hard . So I dont think it would be a good idea.
