My skills at sending telepathic messages to my orange cat, Joan, have improved dramatically. I sent out messages to Joan, asking him to come back to our house so that Kwan, his sister, wouldn’t be too lonely. Within two days, he would appear to our house to the delight of his sister cat. I had to phone my gardener if she could spot the big orange cat in the house. She told me Joan had appeared in the morning for his breakfast and spent the day around the garden.
Joan had moved to my neighbour’s house almost a year ago. He rarely came for a visit; but my gardener told me he would drop by for food whenever the neighbour went away to the city for several days. I was glad that Kwan would have a companion to play with in the garden. Recently Joan visited our house more often, about once every fortnight. He would stay for two days then disappeared during the dark night.
Joan would sleep alone in my bedroom as it’s quiet and much cooler than other rooms. Kwan slept at her usual spot on the east table. It seemed Joan didn’t want to sleep near his sister like in the past. They used to cuddle together a lot when they were young cats. I wondered if it’s a natural trait of a male cat, Joan had a very strong sense of being independent wild cat. Kwan has become very domesticated and wouldn’t leave the house to roam in the fields. She’s like a little kid wanting company and reassurance. Joan’s much more independent and seemed to be aloof at times.
The flood which spread to all the fields and parts of the dirt road meant that Joan couldn’t walk back to my neighbour’s house. So, he was stuck with me and Kwan for a few days. This was the first time in a year that I noticed Joan sleeping on the table with his sister. Kwan was very glad to be close to her brother and would gloom Joan often. So, I had to take some photos to record this special moment. I didn’t know whether Joan would be so loving towards Kwan in the future. Living with cats had taught me a lot about life, the companionship and understanding between cats and humans, and shared feelings of happiness.
I had to be back in the big city so I called up my gardener to enquire about the flooding and Joan. The flooding got worse for almost a week, but it didn’t reach the house. The surrounding area was flooded so the orange cats were stuck inside the house. The gardener had to climb the fence at the back of the house to get inside. She would feed the cats and report on the progress of the water level around the house including the garden.
The water level in the river has receded by about one meter which was very good news for all the submerged trees and plants. The whole area should be dry in about two weeks. Then, the orange cat would be able to roam in the fields. I wondered whether Joan would try to get back to the neighbour’s house. It would be nice to have Joan back on a permanent basis as Kwan was very happy having Joan around the house. They could chase each other around the house and guard the front yard together in the evening. The flood has made it impossible for other stray cats to visit our house. So, one good thing about the flood was to have peaceful house without invading stray cats and two orange cats had the time to get close to each other once again.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Stay strong and cheerful.
