I have so many ideas floating around my head for different games, and it has always been a passion of mine since I was a kid. I'm kind of raging I never got into game development when I was going to college looking back at it.
I'm happy to have done film production, and in fairness, I have been involved in some really good projects - with many more to come - it's just looking back I kind of have this "what if?" curiosity about it.
Behind The Scenes
I've watched some really cool behind-the-scenes videos on a couple of games I really enjoy and one that kind of resonates with me is the making of the Kenshi documentary on YouTube.
One man, essentially dedicating years of his life to creating something he was passionate about, for it to turn into something of a cult classic, but also one with a fairly large player base.
While playing the game, you can almost feel the love the creators - and later creators - have for the project. It's not the over-sanitised feeling that comes from most AAA studios, where it is designed to be a money-maker first and a game second. Indie games seem to be where you can find people who love the craft and want to make something that they would enjoy playing.
Some other behind-the-scenes documentaries I've watched recently include the Fable games, which were obviously larger projects, but a relatively small studio.
Funding A Project
I have one idea for a mobile game which I think could be kind of cool and as far as I know - which is essentially nothing - it wouldn't be too hard to create it.
In my mind, if things go well during this bull run, and I'm left with a fairly decent amount of money after selling everything I have an idea to hire one or two people to help bring something to life.
A small-scale project to begin with and if that works out, then potentially move on to something a bit larger.
I have no idea how much something like this would cost and I also have no idea where to find these people who might be able to bring it to life, but what I do know is, nobody should be expected to work for free.
I'm not sure how much I could earn during this run, but I know it could be a fairly decent amount, will it be enough to move forward with what I'm thinking about, maybe, or maybe not, but at the end of the day, diving into something and making it out the other end would be amazing.
