The world is moving at a very fast pace, and the next generation is already here. In the next 20 to 30 years we would have become old and our kids will see us as people who do not understand how the world works just like a lot of us do our parents. There will definitely be a lot of new things that we will not have the time to learn because we're busy trying to shoulder whatever burdens we will be bearing then. But for a lot of us, especially those of us who witnessed the breaking point of technology and had a taste of what it means to not live with them, which has given us a better view of life and knowing the advantages and disadvantages of different inventions are capable of fully understanding how to deal with them.
It is one thing to know how to use something, it is another thing to understand how to use it. One problem I'm seeing the next generation having is understanding how to use these new inventions. Facebook for example was invented to connect family and friends living far away, same with our cell phones which later became smartphones. But looking at the use today we can see how something that was meant to connect people has separated and destroyed a lot of families and relationships. Are the inventions Bad, the answer is No, the issue is not in the invention, the issue is in the usage. Just like how we see social media being abused today in a lot of ways, I can say for certain that we haven't seen the beginning of AI abuse.
In a couple of years from now a lot of topics will no longer be discussed because it has become the order of the day. Things like social media abuse would have become so normal that the generation then who never witnessed how it was supposed to be used will never know what is right. So if I should give a word of advice to the future generation, it will be that they try as much as possible to learn their history. There will be a lot of new knowledge by that time, so much so that not knowing something might even make one feel exempted from the world. But I will strongly advise that in all they learn they should go back to the history of things and understand the reasons for inventions. Only then can they truly appreciate what they have and use it well.
This is something I have consciously tried to do, I noticed I spent a lot of time on my phone and was beginning to live on my phone. So I decided to create a balance for myself, go out, talk to people and not be with my phone for those periods. I've seen group of friends who came together for hangout and everyone was busy with their phones… I do not blame them, these days it's hard not to be busy with your phone because the moment you're out, it looks like you're missing out on a lot. But I think it's okay to miss out on a few things. I tell myself I can always catch up if I have the right physical relationship. I see the next generation becoming a bunch of loners who just live on the Internet without a real life. It's already spreading in this generation, I can only pity the next generation.
