How to lose your HIVE private keys in three (3) simple steps
It has been a long time since I had the privilege of stopping by. This is due to several reasons, which I will be able to tell you about later. However, one of them has helped me to write to you today. And yes, as expressed in the title of this publication, today I will share with you -from my valued and traumatized perspective- how to lose your HIVE private keys, in three (3) simple steps; without the need to blame third parties. Do you find the subject interesting? Well, here we go...
El primer paso es:
No hacer publicaciones frecuentemente.
Si tienes abierta la cuenta de HIVE (ya sea en tu computadora, tablet o celular), en cualquiera de sus interfaces (Peakd, Ecency, Hiveblog, Liketu...) al dejar pasar mucho tiempo sin publicar, la aplicación hace como una especie de “reinicio” y, si no pudiste guardar tu contraseña en otro sitio, vas a perder el ingreso directo que tenías activo.
El hecho de demorarnos, de procrastinar la publicación de escritos, nos hace perder la emoción, el hábito de poder contar o comunicarnos con los demás a través de las diversas comunidades que hacen vida en HIVE; ser empáticos al transmitir alguna anécdota que nos haya permitido lograr alcanzar algo; hacer alguna actividad social; o cualquier cosa que queramos compartir con el resto del mundo, y que las personas se identifiquen o no, con lo que escribimos, nos hace ser más humanos.
Entonces, al no publicar con frecuencia en las aplicaciones donde tenemos abierta nuestra cuenta de HIVE, (llámese Hive Blog, Peakd, Ecency, Liketu… o en otras), lo que sucederá es que por razones de seguridad, al cierto tiempo se ejecutará como una especie de “reseteo temporal” de la información de ingreso (usuario y clave) y se va a requerir volver a utilizar la llave de publicación, o la llave activa (en ciertos casos específicos). Si te confiaste y no la guardaste con las debidas medidas (que en tantas publicaciones de otros hivers han posteado sobre ese tema); te espera el pasar por un momento frustrante, mientras vuelves a ubicar tu información de seguridad.
El segundo paso es:
Haber descargado el archivo digital generado con las claves, guardarlo en la computadora, tablet o celular, y no recordar exactamente en qué ubicación o carpeta está guardado.
Esto puede ocurrir con frecuencia, en caso de tener una computadora de uso compartido, o si tienes diferentes dispositivos digitales y no recuerdas en dónde descargaste el archivo. A veces tenemos muchas carpetas desordenadas, o descargamos y descargamos información, que no nos damos cuenta el desorden que se nos va acumulando. Esta sería una manera -más común de lo que piensas- de perder nuestras llaves privadas.
Lo ideal sería guardarlo en un dispositivo de almacenamiento que esté fuera de línea, para evitar algún hackeo o que otras personas lleguen a nuestra cuenta y llaves privadas, teniendo un acceso indebido o no permitido. Y muy importante: recodar exactamente en cuál sitio lo guardaste.
El tercer paso es:
Tener impresa la página con tus llaves privadas (método en físico) pero, no saber en qué lugar de tu habitación, casa o lugar del trabajo, la guardaste.
Efectivamente, sí descargamos el archivo digital y sí, logramos imprimirlo en un papel bond, tamaño carta. Ya está fuera de todo dispositivo online pero, esa hojita, ese papel, se nos ha traspapelado o perdido de nuestra vista. Ya que la guardamos en la pila de carpetas o cajas con documentos, que pudiésemos tener procrastinando, en donde habitamos o trabajamos.
Eso generalmente sucede con aquellas personas (como yo) que tenemos memoria de papel; es decir, anotar ciertas informaciones en papelitos y guardarlos. O en aquellas que se dejan acumular y acumular documentos físicos. No quiero decir que este método sea malo, o que el tener documentos acumulados sea una mala gestión de organización. Si eso sirve para ti, está bien. Pero sabes que debes tener cierta precaución, para que no te suceda lo que comento es este tercer paso.
Con esto concluyo mi presentación sobre los tres diferentes pasos, las tres diferentes maneras que, -visto desde otra perspectiva- uno puede perder sus llaves privadas de la cuenta HIVE.

The first step is:Do not post frequently.
If you have your HIVE account open (whether on your computer, tablet or cell phone), in any of its interfaces (Peakd, Ecency, Hiveblog, Liketu...), if you let too much time pass without publishing, the application does a kind of “restart” and, if you could not save your password somewhere else, you will lose the direct access you had active.
The fact of delaying, of procrastinating the publication of writings, makes us lose the emotion, the habit of being able to tell or communicate with others through the various communities that make life in HIVE; to be empathetic when transmitting some anecdote that has allowed us to achieve something; to do some social activity; or anything we want to share with the rest of the world, and that people identify or not, with what we write, makes us more human.
So, if we do not publish frequently in the applications where we have our HIVE account open, (be it Hive Blog, Peakd, Ecency, Liketu... or others), what will happen is that for security reasons, at a certain time a kind of “temporary reset” of the login information (username and password) will be executed and we will need to use the publication key again, or the active key (in certain specific cases). If you got overconfident and did not save it with the proper safeguards (which so many other hivers have posted on that topic); you are in for a frustrating time, while you re-locate your security information.
The second step is:Having downloaded the digital file generated with the keys, saved it on the computer, tablet or cell phone, and not remembering exactly what location or folder it is saved in.
This can happen frequently, in case you have a shared computer, or if you have different digital devices and do not remember where you downloaded the file. Sometimes we have so many messy folders, or we download and download information, that we don't realize how much clutter is accumulating. This would be a way -more common than you think- to lose our private keys.
The ideal would be to save it in a storage device that is offline, to avoid any hacking or that other people get to our account and private keys, having an improper or unauthorized access. And very important: remember exactly where you saved it.
The third step is:
Having printed the page with your private keys (physical method) but not knowing where in your room, home or workplace you saved it.
Effectively, we did download the digital file and yes, we managed to print it on bond paper, letter size. It is already out of any online device but, that sheet, that paper, has been misplaced or lost from our sight. Since we keep it in the pile of folders or boxes with documents, that we may have procrastinating, where we live or work.
This generally happens with those people (like me) who have a paper memory; that is, we write down certain information on little pieces of paper and keep them. Or those who let themselves accumulate and accumulate physical documents. I don't mean to say that this method is bad, or that having accumulated documents is bad organizational management. If that works for you, that's fine. But you should be careful, so that what I am talking about in this third step does not happen to you.
This concludes my presentation on the three different steps, the three different ways that, seen from another perspective, you can lose your private keys to your HIVE account.
Ahora bien ¿Por qué abordo este tema el día de hoy? Obviamente, ya sabes hacia dónde voy. Sí, acertaste. Porque esto me sucedió.
Tengo un buen tiempo sin publicar escritos en HIVE, ya que he pasado por distintas situaciones en mi vida, que me alejaron por bastante tiempo de esta red social y casi casi del mundo cripto. Cuando quise retomar la escritura y publicar, me fijé que las aplicaciones instaladas en mi celular, ya no me mostraban mi perfil “abierto” en ellas. Había pasado demasiado tiempo. Así que tuve que buscar la información sobre mis llaves privadas… Y ahí surgió otro inconveniente (paso 2 y paso 3, ya descritos).
Esto sucedió un fin de semana. Me dediqué a buscar y buscar ese documento, ese bendito papel; porque yo sabía que lo tenía impreso, pero no sabía en qué parte lo había colocado.
Hago un paréntesis para comentarles que, siendo docente, muchos de los trabajos o actividades que debo revisar y evaluar son tanto en físico como digitales; por ende tengo diferentes carpetas en la computadora, también en cajas de cartón y carpetas manila, que están en mi cuarto y, por lo general, si no pude organizar cada cosa en su momento, es muy probable que lo haya traspapelado.
Aun así me puse a buscar, primero en la computadora y el celular, y después entre las cajas de cartón que tengo debajo de mi cama, cada una de las carpetas que tengo allí. En esto revisé muchos proyectos, muchas ideas que las tengo olvidadas y no me había percatado del tiempo que ha transcurrido, y mucho de eso lo quiero renovar. De hecho, lo traje más al presente, para irlas retomando en estos meses que quedan del 2024.
Estuve a punto de rendirme, hasta que por fin… ¡Conseguí mis llaves impresas! Gracias a Dios. Pero como consecuencia directa ¡Ese cuarto quedó hecho un arroz con mango! ... Sin embargo, esa es otra historia para contar.
Ya para finalizar esta publicación, existen otras formas de perder (u olvidar) nuestras llaves privadas de HIVE, dependiendo de cómo seamos a la hora de trabajar, organizarnos ¡O qué sé yo! Sobre todo, si somos de esas personas que nos encantan estar en o tener muchos proyectos activos para concretar; y eso conlleva a tener tantas cosas qué hacer, que se nos complica el organizarnos y tener la información a la mano. Repito, no a todas las personas les sucede, pero sí existen estos casos.

Now then, why am I addressing this topic today? Obviously, you know where I'm going. Yes, you got it right. Because this happened to me.
I have a long time without publishing writings in HIVE, since I have gone through different situations in my life, which took me away from this social network and almost almost almost from the crypto world. When I wanted to resume writing and publishing, I noticed that the applications installed on my cell phone, no longer showed my profile “open” in them. Too much time had passed. So I had to look for the information about my private keys... And then another problem arose (step 2 and step 3, already described).
This happened one weekend. I was searching and searching for that document, that blessed paper; because I knew I had it printed, but I didn't know where I had put it.
I digress to tell you that, being a teacher, many of the papers or activities that I have to review and evaluate are both physical and digital; therefore I have different folders in the computer, also in cardboard boxes and manila folders, which are in my room and, in general, if I could not organize each thing at the time, it is very likely that I have misplaced it.
Even so, I started to search, first in the computer and cell phone, and then among the cardboard boxes I have under my bed, each of the folders I have there. In this I reviewed many projects, many ideas that I have forgotten and had not realized how much time has passed, and much of that I want to renew. In fact, I brought them more to the present, to take them up again in these remaining months of 2024.
I was about to give up, until finally... I got my keys printed! Thank God. But as a direct consequence, that room turned into a mango rice pudding! ... However, that's another story to tell.
To end this publication, there are other ways to lose (or forget) our HIVE private keys, depending on how we are when it comes to work, organization or what do I know! Especially, if we are one of those people who love to be in or have many active projects to complete; and that leads to having so many things to do, that it is difficult for us to organize ourselves and have the information at hand. I repeat, it does not happen to everyone, but these cases do exist.
