El partido que comento hoy, que cerró la etapa correspondiente a las series divisionales en la actual postemporada, se corresponde en buena medida con esa discusión que proponía Álvarez. Les hablo del juego de muerte súbita que enfrentó este sábado a los Cleveland Guardians, campeones en la división central de la Americana y sembrados en esta instancia junto a los Yankees, con los Detroit Tigers, que tuvieron que fajarse contra Houston para llegar hasta aquí. El abridor visitante por su parte tramitó en modo 1-2-3 la parte baja del segundo episodio, un performance que acto seguido emuló el guardián Cade Smith, quien relevó a un ya curtido Boyd que el año pasado se sometió a la clásica cirugía de Tommy John. En la parte baja del tercer acto le tocó a Skubal su primer momento de crisis del choque. Brayan Rocchio le cazó una slider para conectar sencillo a la pradera izquierda, a lo que siguió otro buen turno al bate de parte de Kwan, quien conectó un batazo por la raya del izquierdo que en todo caso fue mal fildeado por Riley Greene. Un lanzador con el potencial de Skubal tiende a salir de la crisis botando fuego, y así hizo alternando entre su sinker y su humeante recta de cuatro costuras.
Smith retomó la tarea en la lomita por Cleveland en la cuarta arriba, abriendo con ponche ante el emergente Colt Keith, quien bateó por el cubano Andy Ibáñez (por cierto, me ha resultado agradable ver que, si bien no tan visible como en temporadas anteriores, ha habido presencia cubana en la postemporada, incluso con jugadores que parecían estar de retirada como Yulieski Gurriel, resucitado en Kansas). Pérez se tomó otra dosis de café, pero Spencer Torkelson interceptó con su bate una recta a más de 95 MPH de Smith, quien luego concedió un boleto a Meadows que lo hizo saltar del montículo para darle paso al canadiense Erik Sabrowski.
