Let me take you also along on a walk now through my photos and garden 😉 where I show you even more ROE #DEER that came to feed 😊 in the last days up till yesterday. 🦌🦌🦌
Let’s start on 23 DECEMBER 2024. Not that long ago. Late afternoon I saw movement outside on the driveway. Getting closer to the kitchen window I saw 4 ROE DEER 🦌 🦌 🦌 🦌 it was 17:23h here. The only light comes from a street light.
They came down the mountain 🏔️ looking for food, especially now the temperatures are below -12 degrees Celsius. It is hard to photograph them as they are very shy and it was really dark.
The next morning… #MOTHER #NATURE gave me this present 💝
The most beautiful SUNRISE I have seen here so far. This photo isn’t edited… and it shows you EXACTLY what I saw at 9:21 on 24 DECEMBER 2024 🥰 It was breathtakingly beautiful. As you can imagine… I took many many photos 😁
After talking to one of our #neighbours about the deer. He brought us some food for them and we put it out around the BIRD FEEDER TREE.
Our hamlet (smaller than a village, the few houses that are here built together on the mountain) has only 4 houses that are lived in. 2 are summer holiday cabins and all the others (about 5 houses) are ABANDONED. Next to us is a large farm with lots of outbuildings… it is abandoned too. The barns you see in my photos and video. The roofs are starting to come down 🏚️🏚️🏚️
The deer food is under the tree:
The next morning, at 8:54h on 25 December, a mother and her young came to search for food. We see the roe #deer #eating 🥰
The young roe deer couldn’t get through the deep snow and waited about 12 meters further next to a path we had created for us to walk on.👇🏻
The roe deer ate until she had enough…
The young was calling out to her. Wandering slowly back to the path.
We had put there luckily also some deer food. So the young roe deer found it.
Later that day we got more deer food from the neighbour. The deer food is provided by the local hunters. As the roe deer population on our mountain is low, they keep a close eye on it. Providing locals with feed for them so they get through the longgggg winter. So the roe deer population can grow come spring. So I agreed to feed the roe deer on our part of the mountain and they provide me with the feed. Mainly crushed barley and other grains. We can also put out peels from fruit and potatoes etc.
As the deer struggled to get to our feeder we created paths for them that afternoon. I captured this photo of a dried weed at sunset.
We still have the Christmas lights on the outside of the cabin too 🥰 it helps me see the deer at night hahaha and the birds and the squirrels.
Here you can see a long path in the back of the bird feeder tree 🌳 We placed the food now behind the tree where the path guides them too and a bit on the driveway 😊
Our neighbour came with his snowmobile… and made a track around our own forest 🌳 So the snow is more compact! Meaning, hubby and I can walk over the track without sinking into the deep snow… AND… THE DEER CAN WALK OVER IT EASIER TOO.
We have put out a few more spots with food for the roe deer. 🦌 I walk behind our cabin towards them on NEW YEAR’S DAY… (you see and hear this in the VIDEO 😎 CHECK IT OUT IF YOU HAVEN’T YET 👆🏻)
The deer tracks coming down the mountain 🦌🦌🦌🦌
We walk further over the #snowmobile track.
Some cute little christmas trees 🌲
After I put out some more food I look back and capture the view towards one of the feeding spots. We also made a path towards it. So the deer can walk over it and we can 😁
On 2 January a lonely buck roe deer comes to visit. 🦌
He is curious enough to walk all the way to the bird tree through our path.
So #CUTE 🥰 we see even a few birds if you look closely at the photos.
Our sunrises 🌅 are very late now. The sun comes just over the mountains around 11:10h ☀️
On 5 January we had a group of 4 roe deer visiting 😊 early in the morning.
We built an automatic feeder and attached it to the birch tree at the end of the path, up right from the bird feeder tree 🌳 It will take some time for the deer to get used to it. So we have put the feeder around it until they will eat from the feeder.
Also the spots the roe deer are familiar with we keep topped up as they come anytime during the day and night.
I have counted so far 3 groups of deer:
Mother and young roe deer
A lonely buck roe deer
And the group of 4 roe deer (2 male and 2 female)
Now we reached yesterday morning 😊 7 January .
I was lucky enough to capture the group of 4 roe deer during day light ☀️😊 They are getting closer and closer to the feeder on the birch tree 🌳
They are very shy still. I am calling out to them when I put out every day new feed. I hope that they get used to it quickly… people say they can come all the way to you and eat out of your hand. 😊 that is definitely worth a try 🥰
I capture several photographs of them.
So beautiful to have about 7 roe deer in our own #garden around the #CABIN. 🦌🦌🦌🦌
I will keep you updated on them with future posts 😁 and videos if you like?
☃️☃️☃️ yesterday and this morning we had sooooo much new snow that we had to get up early today to make all new paths around the garden for the deer and ourselves.
😳 The snow is now 62 CM DEEP ☃️ even deeper in other spots. 😳
A good mornings workout hahaha 🤣
…and here I say that’s all for today’s post my friends.
