Let me take you along with me on my very FIRST VISIT to the stunning #CITY OF SKELLEFTEÅ in Västerbotten County, #NORTHERN #SWEDEN 🇸🇪 It was the middle of winter and the snow was very high in places ☃️❄️
We will walk around the city’s centre to see some beautiful buildings, artworks and sculptures. We even go for lunch in one of the cutest little restaurants I have been in a long time. So tag along and have a look for yourself to see why I like this cute city so much 🥰

We were staying in MJÖVATTNETT in an AirBnB close to Skellefteå during our #roadtrip to MOVE COUNTRIES (from Ireland 🇮🇪 to…?) last FEBRUARY 2024. 📦 See my post : “TREHÖRNINGSJÖ to UMEÅ” part 10a… part 10b the continuation of this trip I will post this week 😉
So first we have to drive to the city… let me show you what we saw along the way 🌲🌳🌨️☃️❄️
We left the AirBnB and this was the road we turned onto, just outside the accommodation.
During the night even more new snow had fallen 🌨️❄️ we see untouched / virgin snow all around us.
We drive through little hamlets and see typical Swedish houses in the colour RED.
We drive on very snowy roads, in some places even icy 🥶
With forests around us.
Some large farms with loads of outbuildings…
…and large stretches of just white snow, interrupted by some trees 🌲🌳🌲
Some roads are snowploughed and we can drive better on them. 😊
We see the first signs 🪧 that mention the city of Skellefteå.
At 10:51h the moon is high in the sky and leads us the way 🌒
I capture the moon in this stunning landscape. It is wonderful to see the bright blue sky…
We are getting very close to the city now…
A few more turns and we will arrive.
We are driving straight through the city and see some awesome buildings next to us. Look at the right side. Beautiful #architecture with the sea green glass sheets.
We parked the car in a parking lot, dress ourselves for the cold… and start our walk into the centre of #skelleftea.
This is a large square in the centre. We see some sculptures covered in the snow ⛄️
As it is almost lunch time 🕰️ I found a restaurant on google maps we should check out.
We have to walk to the other side of the centre… almost there we see this cute building. A very soft greenish paint makes it stand out a lot.
See how high the snow is piled up everywhere to create paths for the people.
Some cute colourful postboxes next to us.
As we walk further we see a very old telephone box. So cool 😎 don’t you think…?
That is the restaurant we go into. Will it be open? Let’s check it out.
We enter and see the cutest interior.
It seems nobody else is here. The #decoration is very #retro.
Shall we take a seat and order some hot drinks and some food for lunch 🥪

We enjoyed our food and are all warmed up for a long walk around the city now. As we walk by the restaurant I see… 😳 hahaha 🤣 do you see it too?
Let me show you a bit closer by. 2 or even more bikes 🚲🚲 burried under the snow, literally completely covered 😯❄️
The main streets are guiding us, let’s walk straight ahead and see what we can discover 😊 Christmas lights above our heads ✨✨
We walk by this very large sculpture. She must be cold 🥶 haha
We walk by this #PINK 🩷 church. Very unique to say the least.
Let’s walk to the white church and check it out. It stands out so much against the bright blue sky 💙🩵
We even see the moon 🌒 again.
We stand still and capture the scene…
Beautiful building, just on the edge of the city’s centre.
We walk back along another road into the centre and we see this large tower.
It is very high…
As we look closer we see something. This building is from wood 🪵 and cladded with glass panes to protect it from the weather.
Oh… its name gives it away too. We see now hahaha “The Wood Hotel”
I suddenly see in a portal of a building a large wall with a mural. We have to check it out. So let’s enter the portal. (Yes yes… I know… I missed the ceiling 😳 only at home I noticed the deer 🦌 on it 🫣 even I can miss sometimes details haha 😂)

We see a very large mural, the buildings cut out of wood glued on a wooden panel and painted the city itself.
The artists are LARS LIDMAND and MATS SVENSSON we see also this artwork is made many moons ago. In 1991 😎 very cool to see it still in a reasonable state.
Some details… a couple wandering along. Very in the style of the 90s.

We wander further through the city. We end up at the city’s park. If you saw my post from this city last week (If you missed it see here!), you recognise this sign.
Let me show you today the rest from this beautiful park and it’s surrounding areas. I didn’t show you in last week’s #highlights. You will see more details now so to speak 😎
At the edge of the park we find this sign with the layout what can be seen throughout it.

The large fountain… it has lots of more snow this time.
We focus on the bottom part of the fountain ⛲️ we see fish and little figures on the sides.
The middle part of the fountain has even more fish 🐟
We stand back a bit to see more of the fountain and it’s surrounding.

In front of us looking out over the park the snow is very high… I capture it up close.
Turning around again we see the fountain and a large hotel 🏨
I couldn’t resist and take another close up 🥰 one of my favourite photos from today.
We wander through the park and see the little boy again. (Details of this statue you find in above’s post from last week) so much more snow in these photos. Ok it is a month earlier in this post, so it should be much more snow 😁
We walk towards the very wide river. Last week we went right. Today I show you everything when we walk towards the left. So lets go…
We take in the view of one of the bridges over this wide frozen and covered with snow RIVER.
Along the walking path we see these structures. Little look out points. It is hard to get through the snow as it is very deep.
There are several of these structures as you can see. Luckily the path is maintained (read the snow is shovelled) so we can walk over it.
The beautiful dark red colour of the leaves stand out 🤩 such a pretty sight.
On our left along the path we see a playground area… but all is pretty much covered with SNOW. ❄️
One street up we see another view point and more of those structures.
Looking closer we see the snow is piled up in #WAVES 🌊 strange to see… how would that be created? Hhhmmmm 🤔 do you have any idea?
We look back over the river and path.
Looking closer at the piers into the water… ok, no water right now, just ice and snow ❄️
We are glad the weather is so good. Sunshine, blue skies… what else do we need 😉 the views are stunning.
Another favourite photo of mine. Beautiful bark on the birch tree 🌳
We see a bit of the river… the ice is shining at this spot.
See what I mean. That area is thinner and will defrost first.
Our view over the river… we are really soaking up all the sun rays ☀️
We walk back to the centre now… shall we have another warm cup of something goods ☕️
