In any city, there are the older and newer parts of the city. Usually, the older parts of the town are often forgotten. So, recently, I went to visit this area of Miri. It was where a lot of business activities used to take place but have gotten neglected.
Wisma Pelita
In an earlier post, I wrote about this building. This used to be one of the most popular shopping malls here in Miri. I still remember those times when I was a young little boy and my mom used to bring me here. Nowadays, only a couple of floors are used for business.
There is also a tale here that not many know about. About more than a decade ago, a man jumped from one of the windows of this building. It was because his wife wanted to divorce him.
A tailor that is still operating today
In the past, Miri did not have a lot of retail shops and many of the residents used to have their clothes tailor-made. This required skill. Nowadays, not many people go to tailors here in Miri. Mostly, we just go to the nearest shopping mall for the premade clothes.
A saloon
I looked inside and saw nothing. Nothing left. Not a single thing but an empty space. It's sad, isn't it to see places like this suddenly left abandoned due to the changing times in our world.
A barbershop
Barber shops used to look like this. You can peek inside and there are some barber chairs for customers to sit down and get a hair cut and the barber gets to know you. Nowadays, many youngsters head to the nearest saloons. haircut here is not going to cost much. The barber usually has a lot of experience cutting hair.
I wonder if this place would ever get revived some day or would become lost in time forever.
A shop selling bags. Lots and lots of bags and fashion accessories to buy here. The prices of the things here are usually a lot cheaper than in malls.
Time waits for no man. Things can change in the decades and the past is often left in the past. People who used to live during those times are no longer here.
