Is your desire truly your desires?
Recently I came across this youtube channel of Jonathan Bi. It has this amazing production and the topic it discusses also appealed to me. It has a lecture on Rene Girard’s Mimetic Theory. This theory is fascinating because it also discusses human nature, commentary to the modern society where we do things not because we want it but because we copy someone else’s desire. It makes you really think if you truly have freedom of choice when putting it through such a theory.
Anyway, this hour-long lecture is also great if you also combine it with working out. I hate my workout without anything in the background & in the past, I used music but why waste my time when I can listen to a great lecture that adds something new to my knowledge and I find interesting too?
If you enjoy delving into philosophy, I think this series of lectures is a great start and if you’re also someone who starts learning about modern philosophers like I do. I had enough of reading works of Plato and Marcus etc. It’s time to move on and learn the great western modern philosophers and how their work helped shape today’s society.
