Every January 14 without interruption, with the exception of the years 2021 and 2022 for the reasons we all know, the city of Barquisimeto dresses up to receive the visit of the Divine Shepherdess (Divina Pastora).
This is a multitudinous event belonging to Catholicism and is considered the third largest Marian procession in the world, behind the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico and the Virgin of Fatima in Portugal.
Although it is mainly a religious activity, it has actually transcended to become a spiritual and sociological experience, besides becoming a tourist attraction in the city and a business opportunity, both for large service providers and for the humble street vendors who walk the 7.5 kilometers of the procession, offering their products, quenching the hunger or the thirst of the parishioners.
In the most recent procession held earlier this year, I found this lady selling sorbets or frosties in the vicinity of the city's modern Cathedral, a few hours before the end of the event.
As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.
Cada 14 de Enero de forma ininterrumpida, con excepción de los años 2021 y 2022 por las razones que todos conocemos, la ciudad de Barquisimeto se viste de gala para recibir la visita de la Divina Pastora.
Este es un evento multitudinario perteneciente al catolicismo y es considerada la tercera procesión mariana más grande del mundo, por detrás de la Vigen de Guadalupe en México y la Virgen de Fátima en Portugal.
Aunque es una actividad principalmente de orden religioso, en realidad ha trascendido para convertirse en una experiencia espiritual y sociológica, además de constituirse en un atractivo turístico de la ciudad y una oportunidad de negocios, tanto para los grandes prestadores de servicios como para los humildes vendedores ambulantes que recorren los 7,5 kilómetros de la procesión, ofreciendo sus productos, saciando el hambre o calmando la sed de los feligreses.
En la más reciente procesión realizada a principios de este año, encontré a esta dama vendiendo cepillados o raspaos en las cercanías de la moderna Catedral de la ciudad, algunas horas antes de la finalización del evento.
Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
