I'm reading up on what's happening in California right this second and my mind is blown. I mean, these type of events are supposed to be exclusive to movies, not real life.
There is almost no way to calculate the loss here. The numbers coming out, the death toll and monetary value are fractions of reality, and I have no doubt this is the case.
0% Under control
All indications here are that this is just going to play out all the way through. There is nothing us powerless humans can do at the moment, no amount of helping that will do much of a difference.
In other words. There's no water to fight it, and even if they had some, it would hardly put a dent in it at this point.
5% Humidity
I was talking to my wife about this important yet overlooked detail. You see, we live in a rainforest, and for us getting dehumidifiers was super important to prevent all of our electronics from growing legs and walking away.
Through my experimentations and implementations of machines to dehumidify our environment, I've discovered practical truths regarding the amount of water we need/want in the air around us all time.
Nothing under 50% humidity feels too comfortable for us, and it's where our computer room usually resides. That being said, under 30% feels like sandpaper on the skin and on the throat. I can't imagine 5%, it's just not computable to my brain.
I'm going to assume without the fear of being wrong, that it must feel for anyone who is there, fleeing or fighting, like Dante's inferno come to life.
And yet, Political football again
I learnt long ago that in the world of politics, there is no disaster that won't benefit a narrative, a political party.
And, since California is a blue state, the political pundits have made it a point to blame the Democrats for this whole thing. The big cheese himself, Elon, is broadcasting calls for arrests and resignations.
Hawaii, but bigger
Not long ago you and I watched in awe as Hawaii was being destroyed. I incorrectly assumed this would be the last time the American government would be caught with their pants down, with a feeble FEMA, but alas I was dead wrong.
Seems like these days all we do is wait for the next big disaster to show it's face while sitting on our hands and crossing our legs.
Insane, that is the only word I have right now... Literally insane.
