Hey! Our trip back to Grandma Ama’s house went smoothly today. Even though some areas were affected by landslides, we saw that the Public Works Department was already working on fixing the roads.
When we arrived at Grandma Ama’s house—my wife’s mother—out of nowhere and without any prior discussion, they suddenly decided to go fishing. Haha. It’s pretty much their usual thing, so I just joined in and had fun. The river was still a bit murky, but since the flood had subsided, I gave them the green light to go. Since I have a 4-wheel-drive car, I played a key role in making their ‘healing’ activity happen today.
We left the house around 3 PM. The fishing spot was near a concrete bridge deep inside a plantation. There were no paved roads in the area, just a bumpy, muddy plantation path. Without me, they usually walk to the nearest river. So, whenever we visit the village, it’s always lively with fishing trips.
My second son, Rex, was really excited to join in today, so I let him tag along and experience fishing here. This place has always been a great fishing spot—we’ve caught plenty of fish before. We brought different types of bait, including earthworms, shrimp, squid, and some homemade bait that Grandma Ama often uses.
Long story short, we didn’t catch anything. After fishing until 7 PM, we decided to head back since it was getting dark. Even though we ended up ‘kungpau’ (a term we use when we return empty-handed), spending quality time with family at the river was totally worth it.
Now, it looks like they want to go sea fishing tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes—if the weather is good, I might take them.
