In addition to the lack of efficiency in spending, other aspects are involved in this issue, and the way taxes are levied is a contentious issue. Should the rich pay more taxes than the average citizen?
If we look at the amount of money, the rich end up paying more taxes, but the problem lies in the proportion and the ways to minimize this impact on the pockets of those who know how to manage their money. For example, a rich person pays more tax than an ordinary person, but knows how to invest their money. After all, at least the vast majority of rich people didn't achieve this position by chance. This financial intelligence ends up being efficient, preventing taxes from being a bigger loss when the rich person manages to compensate for this loss by investing their money in a way that earns a good return.
However, looking at it proportionally, the poor pay most of the bill. Taxes associated with basic necessities, such as food, housing, water, electricity, etc., end up taking more from those who already have little and have nowhere else to turn, after all, these are basic necessities for survival. In proportion to what they earn, the poor end up paying more taxes than the rich, which is undeniable, unfair and even cowardly. Those who are poorer are affected much more, if they earn just one salary and pay 40% tax, their income is brutally affected, while the rich only pay a small percentage of everything they have and what they earn...
But should the rich pay more tax? Maybe so, but is it fair that a person who has earned all his fortune should be responsible for paying the lion's share of a nation's tax burden? It's a complicated dilemma. If this happens, there will be no shortage of ways to evade taxes, something that already happens all the time. A rich person would find ways to put their money in tax havens; tax evasion would not just be an option, but a necessity. At the same time, it's not fair that the poorest people have a large part of their earnings committed to taxes, which is what happens today. It is levied in a wrong and undignified way.
Given this scenario, I believe that the biggest problem is not exactly who should pay more, but rather how the tax is spent. If the government were efficient at making things happen, it wouldn't be necessary for people to hand over so much money to the state. With conscious spending, qualified people in power and good administration, it would be possible to collect less tax in a way that people wouldn't be so affected, and we wouldn't even need to question whether it's the rich or the poor who should pay more tax.
