For this part of the article, we will show you how to get published on Amazon Kindle. If you already have an Amazon account, then you can just head straight to Amazon KDP and Sign in.
If you do not have an Amazon account, start by creating one in simple steps:
- Head to Amazon and click on “ Start Here” under “Account & Lists”
- Enter your full name, mobile number/email and a password you can remember and then click verify email.
- Once you have verified your email, your account would be created and the you can proceed to signing in to KDP with that account.
Follow the steps stipulated and then you should be led to your bookshelf. You would find a message in the upper-right corner asking you to complete filling your information.
That pop up will lead you to filling a form, this would contain publisher and tax information. Fill it up and you are set to go.
Now, proceed to upload your book using the easy guide and steps provided by KDP. The steps include the following:
- Inputting book title and description
- Selecting the genre and keywords
- Uploading Cover files and manuscript: there are sections for the PDF (which is hardcopy) and EPUB (E-book).
- Then you set pricing and make sure to look at your target audience while doing it.
- A tip is to set pricing from $2.99 but the price would vary per region. Round off the prices to the whole number. Depending on what your book is about, you could get suggestions from Amazon about best prices for your book.
- Publish your book (it takes about 3 - 7 days to be reviewed by the Amazon team).
MMO Tip: Designing Your Book Cover
You don’t need to be Leonardo Da Vinci or higher the best skilled graphic designer to create your book cover. We offer you a few tips to consider when designing your book cover.
- Using a simple and easy platform - we recommend Canva. Although Canva has a paid program, it still offers really good templates for free.
- Consider what your book is about. Your cover is the forerunner of your book after the title. People judge a book by its cover. Literally.
- Colour Scheme. You don’t want your book cover to be all out of balance and contradictory. The human brain processes colours like it does information. Depending on what your book is about, you will want colours that tell that story. For example, red and danger go together. If your book is a thriller, it would likely work well contrasted with dark themes.
- You can google colour palettes and pick what appeals to you and speaks well of your book.
We come to the end of this tutorial on getting your book out there and earning you some passive income. Remember, when you have knowledge it is value and the world exchanges value for value.
