Buddha Stupa which is also known as Boudhnath, is another temple which is a famous one to visit in Kathmandu. This is a very huge stupa, it is the largest spherical stupas in Nepal and the world. In the past the stupas were built to hold the holy relics and in this particular stupa it is said that the relics of Buddha, Kashyapa are preserved. There is another story also to it. They say that a bone of Lord Buddha has been preserved in this Stupa. I honestly do not know what is the real story. For me, it did not matter much, I wanted to see the place.
I could not even capture the whole stupa in one shot. It is huge, only a aerial view will justify. When I reached there I saw that lot of people were going around the stupa. My guide told me that people have a lot of faith in this one and if they have some wish they go around it for 108 times to manifest their wish.
I did one round of the stupa to see what was around the whole place. The surroundings are fully commercialized with shops, restaurants and hotels. Most of these shops had common items, like painted frames with spiritual significance, Tibetan bowls, bells, clothes, jewelry and many crystal shops also.
In this particular place there was a mass prayer ceremony going on. I did not want to disturb the sanctity of this place so did not click the picture of the inside.
There were many monks sitting in a lines and chanting holy mantras and this was all being done for world peace. Trust me it was so calming , I did not want to leave from there.
I could not go inside since it was closed, but just seeing it from out I was feeling very positive and nice. My guide was in a hurry, else I would have loved to spend some more time in this place.
