Comienza hablando sobre una petición a lo divino, en realidad son varias peticiones a lo largo de la letra, pero la primera es que el dolor no le sea indiferente, y que no se vaya de este mundo solo y vacío sin haber hecho lo suficiente. Creo que se refiere a que ojalá no vaya a morir sin antes haber logrado sus metas morales y espirituales, sin haber hecho el bien para los demás o haber logrado algo para el mundo. De eso se trata la vida, a muchos les llega la muerte y terminan partiendo de este mundo sin haber hecho nada realmente por si mismo y por los demás, triste, pero una vida así es lamentable.
La canción prosigue hablando de la dignidad y de la guerra, pero refiriéndose a esta última como un monstruo que destroza la inocencia de la gente, un monstruo que mata al inocente.
La canción en si es como una canción de protesta, creo que León Gieco vivió en épocas de dictadura en su nación, lo que lo llevo a escribir esta canción.
