A month and something ago I started BasketBolaji Comics.
Since I'm not only interested in writing but also in 2D Cartoon drawing and animation I've always wanted to have a cartoon brand going for me.
In 2020-2021 I got serious and started Son of Aphrodite Animations:
The plan was to mainly create animations for content and clients, but I couldn't keep it going as I had to focus on the things that were already paying me money at the time.
It takes time to earn from ventures and I couldn't starve in the meantime till I start earning from animations.
Since then I've always wanted to go back to building my animation brand, though, and now I've decided to. This time I'm going to start with comic pieces to keep the content flow going, and videos which take more time toake would be coming in drops.
Son of Aphrodite Animations for BasketBolaji Comics
I've also decided to drop the name Son of Aphrodite Animations for BasketBolaji Comics. Why?
1
Nigeria is taking over the world with her music and culture
2
Because I'm a Nigerian. Nigeria is the most populous black nation and the fourth most populous country in the world.
We have crazy numbers online and many international brands seek for Nigerian attention in order to make things go viral online or just in order to have numbers on their side.
3
So why would I, who is a Nigerian, not be fronting a clearly Nigerian identity?
Why would I let my brand be a brand that doesn't fully identify with Nigeria?
The name Son of Aphrodite surely seems international, but that is not as much of a good thing as you might think.
With a name like that I still have to prove to Nigerians that I'm for them, by them, and of them.
But with a name like BasketBolaji, it is settled.
Bolaji is a common Nigerian male name. The Basket is there because I did some kinda pun thing.
In Nigeria "Bolaji" is now a nick name for a "baller". You know, a baller is someone that balls and is living the life. And because Bolaji begins with "Bola" which sounds like "baller", we're out here calling ballers Bolaji.
So BasketBolaji is a play on the words Basketballer and stuff. You kinda see what it's trying to do, right?
The name wasn't only supposed to be clever, it had to be very Nigerian at the same time, so there you have it.
