The Dynamics of Family Size

in #hive-1538509 days ago

Growing up, I lived in a large family. I say this because at that time my dad didn’t have his own house so we were living in our family house with my grandparents , aunties and other family members. It was a big house and we all lived together as one. Surprisingly, everything was peaceful and it was always a joyous moment when everyone is around spending time together.

For me , as a kid, I got to play with the other kids and that was enough for me to say I lived a happy childhood. I didn’t know much then and I didn’t even have any responsibilities as a kid until when I was a bit older. But I did have common sense to know how living in a big family felt and looked like.

Fast forward, by Gods grace we got our own house and moved out of our family house. This was so many years ago. And so currently, I live in a small family where we don’t even get to see each other that much cos everyone is busy. From my experience living in both a big and a small family, I would say they both have their pros and cons.

Living in a big family meant that you got to spend time with everyone and have fun but that also meant that you had to say bye bye to your privacy and peace of mind in a way. With living in a small family , you get to have more than enough privacy but no one to talk to sometimes. There wouldn’t always be a full house and that could mean that you’d get to either enjoy your peace of mind or get bored depending on who you are.

Personally, I love both settings but looking into the future, I would say I prefer a much smaller family even if money wasn’t a problem. Having a large family is good but with the kind of person that I am, I don’t think I’d have the energy to run a large family. Even a small family might be a hassle for me and that’s why I’m going in for a much smaller family. A family of 5 wouldn’t be bad. My husband, myself and at most 3 kids. Or maybe 2 kids and a sister or brother of mine.

Maybe, this might change in the future because people change. I might end up having a football team but today, I know I don’t want a football team. I want to be able to make time for my family , not have divided attention and not put my role as a mom or whatever on others. I’ve seen mothers who have no time for their families because they choose to live life instead of making time to take care of their kids and husbands and I have seen how this affected their family dynamics. People with even one kid sometimes struggle so imagine having a lot more.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and identifying mine has helped me in making a decision as to the kind of family I wish to have. There would always be a big family waiting for me at the family house which everyone is always welcome to. Once we crave for a large family setting, we can always pass by and spend some time. It’s a win win situation for us all.

Small family can be fun too if we make it to be, large family comes with much fun and much work to do in many ways 😅

Hehe, I see what you did there. You don’t like work.😂

Football team ooh no please hehe I also prefer the small family setting, I like my peace and privacy most of the time, holiday season can help cover for the catch-up with extended families.

That’s right.

I have taken my time to understand my strength and weaknesses and other personalities of mine...as much as raising a large family can be fun in a way...nkem does not have the capacity...my husband each time he says that he wants a baby girl, I will remind him that these three boys chokes 😃, adding another one, hmmmm
I no get strength abeg
Smaller family, quality family dynamics 😍

4 wouldn’t be bad, it would be an even number.😅
