Life in My Hometown With My Kids

in #hive-12445211 days ago

Life in the village is totally different from the city; however, it's all a unique experience. Two days ago, I traveled to my hometown with my kids for the Christmas holiday, and currently, we are already enjoying the moment. The new weather is very cold here, the new environment, the firewood kind of cooking instead of my usual table gas cooker, hehe 😃

There's this argument that food cooked with firewood is tastier than the one cooked with a gas cooker. This afternoon, I tried practicing it with the same ingredients I usually use to prepare food in Lagos City, where I reside, and after preparing the food in my village this afternoon, I couldn't detect any changes in the taste, maybe just a superstitious belief? Whatever, but the most important thing is that I am enjoying my Christmas holiday with my children here in our village with so much of our native delicacies we are eating here so far.

My kids have been mingling with other children over here, getting along, playing local games, and sharing cartoon character stories together. My mother-in-law has been feeding them with the olden days stories, and they are loving the moment. They are also using the opportunity to learn our mother tongue more... going deeper into the language other than what they knew before. Everything is just taking shape just the way I wanted.

You see, one of the reasons why I choose to travel home very early is for my kids to really understand our culture more by socializing very well with my people here in our hometown. There are lots of festivals going to take place this season, and the plan is to expose them to all of these. Let them also get to know where they came from. Visit their uncles, cousins, nephews, aunties, and more. Let them be versatile in the things that matter and keep learning as they continue to grow.

Our journey back to this village was quite stressful. We spent two days on the road due to lots of issues that arose on our way back, which I may share the experience in another post later. However, we are all good, and the catching up so far with our relatives has been amazing 😍.

Hopefully, we will make lots of nice memories for the few weeks we will spend here before returning back to Lagos City in January next year.

I hope you have a lovely Christmas holiday with your family.
Until next time, stay amazing and positive

QuoteThere's this argument that food cooked with firewood is tastier than the one cooked with a gas cooker.

It's a fascinating debate! Many people argue that food cooked with firewood has a unique, rich flavor, often attributed to the natural smoke and higher heat intensity. The traditional way of cooking with firewood can add a depth and complexity to dishes that gas cookers might not replicate. This method is particularly cherished in many cultures for its ability to enhance the taste of certain meals.
On the other hand, gas cookers provide consistent heat and are more convenient for day-to-day cooking. They’re quick, easy to control, and clean. In the end, it might come down to personal preference and the type of food being cooked, @nkemakonam89 !.

Talking about convenience, I will always choose gas cooker and I still have a very tasty meal with it. A lot of people argue that firewood add a better taste to food after preparation...I think it's indeed a matter of preference.
Overall, enjoying our meal after each preparation is the goal 😍
