If you love old movies like me Alfred Hitchcocks The Birds is literally a buried gem that you shouldnt miss This movie was released in 1963 but to this day it is still able to amaze anyone who watches it because its not just an ordinary horror movie its a masterpiece that plays on your nerves from the first moment to the last moment.

The story in brief

The story is simple but brilliant It begins with Melanie a chic girl who meets a lawyer named Mitch in San Francisco and decides to visit him in his coastal town to please him with a small gift But once she gets there everything turns upside down when the birds in the area start attacking humans in a strange and very scary way

Directing and photography

Alfred Hitchcock was creative as usual What distinguishes this movie is that it relies on an atmosphere of psychological tension more than relying on effects or bloody scenes The idea that the birds which are supposed to be something natural and peaceful turn into something very terrifying was brilliant Also the classic photography in old colors gives the movie a special character Its like a painted painting.

Acting

The acting of Tippi Hedren Melanie and Rod Taylor Mitch was excellent Each character has a distinct character especially Melanie who transforms from a spoiled girl to a human trying to fight danger with all courage The secondary characters such as Mitchs mother and his little sister added a beautiful dramatic dimension to the story.

Psychological Horror

The film relies more on psychological horror There is no clear explanation for why the birds attack humans and this is what makes the story more terrifying because you feel uncertainty and fear of the unknown The sound also played a very big role in building the atmosphere because Hitchcock decided not to use background music and focused on the sound of the birds and the attacks.

The ending is open and thought provoking Not everyone likes endings like this but I personally think it is genius because it makes you think about what you saw and leaves you in a state of anticipation even after the film ends.

The Birds is not just a horror movie it is a movie that shows Hitchcocks genius in turning anything ordinary into something scary If you like old movies and appreciate the details of classic directing and acting you will find this movie a very enjoyable experience It is not just a movie it is a lesson in the art of psychological horror.
