You can access Waves with more features from Ecency app.
Waves app is intentionally basic for new users.

You can claim and stake tokens easily within your Ecency wallet when you set it up with all your favorite tokens. I use Ecency app to transfer token prizes to contest winners

No. Ecency offers Points for each action you take using Ecency.
Posting, voting, commenting, everything earns POINTS. You can utilize Points within the platform

Click on the blue 'buy perks' button at the top of the page (on mobile it is a blue flame.)

You will see choices for boost+ which allows you to use Points to get a 200HP delegation from Ecency. It will give you more voting power and allow you to earn bigger curation rewards. It is very useful for small accounts.

You can also use Points to promote your posts. Promotion puts your post into a queue rotation where it circulates through Ecency feeds and allows more people to see your post.
