If I Could Just Cut to the Best Edits

in #hive-15166212 days ago

I'm not exactly sure how it all started, but I somehow learnt over the years since the pandemic that photography and videography are skills that I want to hone. Pretty things attract me, really, and I mean things like really good photo and video editing. One thing led to another, and it has now become something that I truly want to become really good at.

Perhaps it started when I bought a powerful phone for the first time in 2019. The camera of the Redmi Note 8 Pro fascinated me so much that I wanted to see how good the photos with it would be. That made me want to learn more and more, and now I regularly found myself through social media, discovering amazing photographers and video editors.

Creating content is something that I know that I really want to do, aside from engineering, particularly video content creation. Realising that this would include turning myself into a one-man production team, I started to consider video editing a little more seriously.

Observing how the YouTube algorithm works, clearly the successful videos are mostly the ones with really good effort put into them, and that includes how the video looks. The more engaging, satisfying, and aesthetically pleasing your video can be, the more likely it is to do well in some ways. And that's what makes good video editors really valuable, generally.

For me, video editing is a form of art, and it is a creative outlet where I can express my ideas and emotions visually. And the videos I make every now and then, whether or not I share them publicly, would only be much better with good editing. That I know, but guess what's missing? Yes, being a good editor.

I have been using video editing apps like Capcut for a while now. Most of my videos were made with Capcut. But I don't exactly call myself an editor yet. It's not even about being humble. It's about realising the really wide gap between myself and where I would like to be.

Everything I have been doing with video editing has mostly been casual, until a reason for me to take it a little more seriously came along the line. That was when I realised how much I really wanted to do this thing. What was stopping me the most, among others, was my laptop.

I know gear doesn't matter much when you're learning a new skill. "Work with what you have," you'd hear often. While that is true, there are some tiny ways gear could matter. In my case, not only is my laptop not as powerful in the least way it should, but it had a battery problem. Sounds like complaining, but it really isn't because I keep on working and learning regardless. I only acknowledge that things would be much easier if I had a much more capable device.

While I am consuming as much learning materials on how to use certain video editing software and seeking how to improve, I have my eyes on a particular model of laptop that would allow me to unlock more creativity and productivity. When I lay my hands on it, trust that I will forge ahead even more relentlessly.

Thankfully, I can put in a lot of hours of learning and practice into it, so time isn't really an issue in this case. Although I reckon that having a private tutor or perhaps being in an academy may speed up and streamline things for me, I can't really have those, so I am blazing through free materials I can find on places like YouTube.

Another thing I thought was going to be an issue was having raw files to work with. Then I realised how that is actually easy and shouldn't even be considered a problem. I can always shoot anything with my camera and work on that. There are some friends that make videos every now and then that I could do video editing for. Regular practice would make me better—that, I know.

Video editing is a skill I wish I had and that I think matters in today's world. I am already working on it, so I wonder how things would be like in a year. I am mostly doing it for myself to create content better, but I imagine also making a lot of money with it getting the right gigs. For now, I'll be cooking.

By the way, if you're into video editing, there's the #editors-corner where we talk about video editing and learn from ourselves. You're invited.

I remember when I started learning video editing with Pinnacle studios after my JSS3 exams but left it when I didn't know how to get jobs as a video editor. I did it for fun all through my teenage age and only realized the importance years after

Never heard of Pinnacle studios. Do people still use it these days? I think it is much easier for video editors to find jobs these days than then. You think you may get back on video editing again?

I'm currently looking for side jobs, and now that you mentioned it, I would really consider it now. I just hope I am not that far gone because a lot of things has advanced

You can always catch up with the train with dedication and perseverance. That's what I know and I'm trying this time. I'm getting too old to not see things through till the end.

Just like you, video editing is one of the skills that I wish I had, and aside from that, there are others too like programming, most especially in AI.

Yes, I have programming in mind. In fact, that's what this post would have been about if not video editing. But I prefer this... You and I have a journey together in video editing, brother.

I have massive cravings for video editing and I am planning to fully venture into it when I leave school actually

I hope you get into it. How long until you are done with school?

I think in the next one month. Just waiting for the project clearance and I am finally done

Okay, man. I wish you all the best.

Video editing skills are good and needed in the digi-verse. Like you said, with practice you can become better

Heh. Yes, in the digi-verse. I do intend to practice a lot more in the coming days. This week looks promising.

Nice

Nice2

Lol, have a lovely day ahead Jay

Video editing and photography is what a friend of mine suggested I should also venture into since I love tech.
A lot to do to meet up really and I will put the energy gradually

I understand, man. Really, if you don't have an immediate need to do video editing, or anything at all, getting into it may not be as easy.

My number one digital headache oo 😂
I use to admire how you all come up with a nice edit.. jay, you have gone far too..I am still a raw material on this..one reason why I stopped embarrassing myself joining vibe contest on hive🤦

Nkem 😁

I have been doing things for a while now. Thank you for appreciating my humble works. So it's because of video editing that you ran away from Vibes?? Chai. Nkem...

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Leave me oo 😂
I can't be embarrassing myself biko
Let me leave it for people like you and others who can dish out something more quality

It is well 😁
Just be supporting my ministry as always...

Video editing is nice and could be lucrative, works well when you have a deep passion for it.

It is however one of my digital stress (if there is a word like that). It takes me a lot of time and energy to edit a few minutes video with Capcut. I guess it's not just my thing.
Greetings!

Video editing can actually take a lot of time and effort. I know how tiring it can be. I somehow just enjoy it, but I understand that it cannot be everybody's thing. But do you still have Capcut on your phone, though?

Yep. I still have Capcut in my phone.

The only thing I am wary of Xiaomi is their spyware 😂 but I gotta admit their phone delivers good quality and cheaper price than Samsung. Also, I think for editing, going with Macbook would be better than just regular laptop. From what I see around that looks like the standard of graphic designing and anything creative too.

PS : I love the first picture, it looks professional.

Xiaomi has a spyware problem? I didn't even know that. Jeez 🤯😂

Macbooks are generally better for video editing. And one of the reasons is how they perform on battery versus regular laptops. Other laptops drop CPU and GPU power when on battery. But the Macbooks are expensive, you know, and I'm so used to Windows OS that I'd run crazy to have to pay $300 for a software I could download the crack for free on Windows. 😂 Speaking of, do you get to use cracks on your Linux?

I love the first picture, it looks professional.

Thank you, Mac!

I mean you could look it up all over youtube. I don't use crack software on linux and never will. Honestly, these days I am using windows since I am into gaming and play games every once in while will be reverting back to Linux for the convenience. The thing I hate is that I don't get much control over my windows and even read the stuff around it.

Sounds like you are running both Windows and Linux on the same laptop. Is that right? Maybe I'll try Linux someday.

haha no, I have several laptops run on linux and only one run on windows. I wouldn't run them on dual boot, that's a chore :D

Waoh. "Several laptops" is initimidating, Mac. Yeesh! 😁

they are old haha and I don't have the habit of disposing them + I like tinkering with them, that's why I kept mine hehe

Oh

So, engr. Mac much?
The last two I owned aren't even with me. I'm not a tinkerer like you, so I'm likely to give out old devices.

You see that video editing, I admire those into it especially when it's done with clarity and exceptional. These are people who put in great work and effort. Of course, they start from the scratch. Everyone keeps getting better with more practice. But sometimes, something is always a limitation and when one is passionate, nothing would stop them once the limitation is off the road.

I know, right? I mostly think passion isn't enough, though, especially when the plateaus come. One also needs active dedication, discipline, and a good learning strategy. Let's see what happens with time. Thank you, Princess.
