Oh yes, the floods here are no joke, as Mother nature is very angry.
Now, that is one very big tree, and the wind snapped it like a twig.
I said elsewhere that the river rehabilitation phase has not reached the upper parts of the river yet. They are finished in our section of the river, and we had no floods, but other areas were not so lucky. I want to share some photos of the floods with you, in order to see what I am talking about. I will also mention issues that contribute to the dangers of floods.
So, without further ado, come and see what I have today.
I told you that the tree was very big. But the water power and the wind power partnered to destroy it.
The tree above is also on borrowed time as long as the floods take place, as there is supposed to be no water in this area. You can see where the river flows behind that fallen tree.
Just to show you a close up of the tree, and you can see how the water is hammering the trunk of the tree.
We were standing on a bridge to take the photos, and this was what the other side of the bridge looked like. There is the normal river at the right hand side.
Here below is a closer look at the river, and this is all that there is in normal non flooding times.
Some of the public roads in the area also flooded, and I think that it might be because of blocked storm water drains.

Now talking about blocked storm water drains, one of the big problems is that the public block the drains by dumping rubbish into the rivers.
I mean just have a look at this below. Thankfully the water that flows through this storm water pipe subsided, but look what came out of it.
And this? Who in his right mind would throw a car tire into a river?
Not only this, as old mattresses, expired fridges and other appliances also find their way into the rivers. Old car oil and used chemicals are also found in the rivers and one doesn't even have to wonder about what it does to the quality of the ocean waters where the rivers flow into the sea. A dead stop has to be put to this, but not so easy as many factories and townships crowd right onto the riverbanks. I have only mentioned a few of the items that end up in the rivers, and there are mountains of waste that block the storm water drains. I haven't even mentioned the sewerage that gets pumped into the rivers and the sea. It may be too late, but it's now high time for a law to be made that bans any developments within 500 yards of a river. We can only hope that things will improve.
So, this is my short Friday post, and I hope that you will understand the dilemma that we find ourselves in.
