Ice Cream Day + Día del Helado [Eng+Spa]

Sunday working at home, just a little, but taking care of things. I have spent a quiet day, and this July 21st is almost over. I have few things to say about myself, although I am still worried about how my brother's recovery is going. We have to make sure that the wound on his finger continues to recover without complications.

Outside these things, there is nothing new to tell. My brother reminded me that today is Children's Day, but I was not tempted to record the day focusing on that anniversary. Instead, I noticed there was a food-themed anniversary that fit quite well with the celebration of childhood: Today is Ice Cream Day.

Wait… I'm pretty sure I saw this same celebration back in April. Well, if there is an International Ice Cream Day in the month of April, I just checked, it is April 12. However, it is quite common for a meal to have different celebration days on the calendar. In today's case, it seems that it is because in the United States they celebrate Ice Cream Day on the third Sunday in July, which is today. They owe this celebration to the administration of Ronald Reagan, who (in 1984) signed the proclamation for this holiday.

I think it is not as widespread a date as April, but I liked that the celebration of this frozen dessert coincided with the celebration of childhood. In my memory, there are several memories (sweet and cold, forgive the bad joke) of joys associated with eating ice cream, sharing ice cream, or going shopping and eating ice cream.

I guess something similar can happen to everyone.

#IceCream is a dessert that has a relatively close history. Although there are references to the use of ice, fruits and honey in the times of Emperor Nero, in Rome, I believe that the oldest Ice Cream recipes are located in Asian gastronomy. There is a discussion about whether the origin of what we can call ice cream is in Japan or China. But, I think that, in fairness, the birthplace of modern ice cream as we know it, we must locate it in Italy.

Some friends point out that it was the Italian merchants of the Renaissance (16th century) who brought the Ice Cream recipe to Europe, and that they were originally inspired by a recipe from China. That is debatable, but what can be said with more certainty is that the Italians were the creators of a machine (in the 17th century) that made it easy to homogenize a creamy mixture of fruits, ice, and sugar.

Although the recipe for that Italian ice cream from the 17th century serves as a direct antecedent, we then have to wait until the 20th century (1913), for a continuous ice cream production machine to emerge and a recipe to be industrialized that served as the basis for the versions. of ice cream that we know today.

En su lugar, noté que había una efeméride del tema de la comida que encajaba bastante bien con la celebración de la infancia: Hoy es el Día del Helado.

Un momento… Estoy casi seguro de que vi esta misma celebración en abril. Bien, si hay un Día Internacional del Helado en el mes de abril, ya lo acabo de revisar, es el día 12 de abril. Sin embargo, es bastante común que una comida tenga distintos días de celebración en el calendario. En el caso de hoy, parece que es porque en Estados Unidos celebran el Día del Helado el tercer domingo de julio, que es hoy. Esta celebración se la deben a la administración de Ronald Reagan, que (en 1984) firmó la proclamación para esta fiesta.

Creo que no es una fecha tan extendida como la de abril, pero me gustó que coincidiera la celebración de este postre helado con la celebración de la infancia. Hay una discusión sobre si el origen de lo que podemos llamar helado está en Japón o en China. Pero, creo que, siendo justos, la cuna del helado moderno que conocemos, debemos ubicarlo en Italia.

Algunos amigos señalan que fueron los comerciantes italianos del renacimiento (siglo XVI) los que llevaron la receta del Helado a Europa, y que originalmente se inspiraban en una receta de China. Eso es discutible, pero lo que sí se puede decir con más certeza es que sí fueron los italianos los creadores de una máquina (en el siglo XVII) que facilitaba homogeneizar una mezcla cremosa de frutas, hielo y azúcar.

Si bien la receta de ese helado italiano del siglo XVII sirve de antecedente directo, tenemos que esperar luego hasta el siglo XX (1913), para que surgiera una máquina de producción continua de helados y se industrializara una receta que sirvió de base para las versiones de helado que conocemos en la actualidad.
