Carrot and Stick .:. WorkerBee PH-Pool Week 183

Before writing this post, I was searching for a suitable topic to write about... As there is no better topic than those that I have on my mind for the last month or so, I decided to write about the Donkey and the carrot... Interestingly, it wasn't just me that got this analogy lately, but 2-3 of my friends used almost the same metaphor for their current situation! 😱

Anyway, I got the idea for the post, and I got the topic to write about... But, during the brainstorming process, I change the topic, but sticking to the same idea... Sounds weird, but let me explain how it went and connect the dots...

A few months ago I received the "great news" that my rent will go up significantly 🙄, and when I say it, I mean over 20% of the current price... To be honest, that didn't surprise me as I knew that tourists in my area are paying much, much more... But, there is a big difference... They are TOURISTS and they pay that price for 2-3 weeks of vacation and go back to their homes... I'm LIVING here and I have to pay the price 365 days per year... Maybe you saw on your TV that there were some protests in Spain regarding this issue, so the struggle is real!

Having that in mind, and the fact that my son is starting University next month, we need a permanent solution to this problem... Believe it or not, the solution is to try to buy a home! Currently, if you manage to get a mortgage (or a loan), your monthly payment is LOWER than if you are paying your rent, so there is no sense in renting anymore! But, how to get the loan?

Now, we are coming back to the donkey and the carrot story, which probably everyone heard, but you can check it out here... The problem with finances in the last 2-3 decades (and more), is that most of the time we have an illusion that we are earning more, that we are progressing in the right direction... I had the idea of buying my first home for over a decade, but whenever I would put numbers on paper, I would need just a bit more money to get the mortgage... Every few years, I would sit down, do the math, and measure the distance of that carrot... It would always be at the same distance, or even further down the stick than before!!

Let's go back to that small graphic inside the image above... We have a carrot, a donkey, and a man holding the stick on the back of the donkey... So, which one am I on that image? Of course, a donkey! To be honest, this image, changed the topic of this post, from an ordinary talk about real-estate issues with getting a mortgage of ever-growing prices of homes, into something different...

The game is rigged! If you don't understand that, you should seriously think about it and make changes according to that fact... To embrace the "game", to understand how it works, and to "unrig" it! The guy on the back of that donkey is governments, corporations, banks, all those entities that are creating the rules of the game... You and I are doing the work, trying to get food on the table every day, but every next day it is harder and harder to do so... Food is getting more expensive, packaging is getting smaller, and our tummies are getting less of QUALITY food (speaking of that, it's another huge topic... junk food is cheaper, while "ordinary food" is more expensive)... Yes, your salary may be getting bigger, but very rarely it is higher than the inflation numbers... Your carrot is not closer to you... NEVER...

What is the solution to this huge problem? Being over 7 years in crypto, I got one question asked many times... Why are you in crypto? And almost from the very beginning of my crypto journey, I had the same answer...

To make a difference!!

It's not only making a difference in earning more money, but also embracing new tech, being a pioneer in the industry, and learning new, revolutionary things... In the end, after all these years, maybe it's time to educate others about the importance of crypto, about its crucial part in WINNING the rigged game! It can be the missing puzzle of not just surviving, but also leading the way, showing that it is possible to do things differently... Creating NEW RULES, creating NEW GAME, more fair, not rigged...

In my opinion, we can win by embracing Web3, crypto, empowering ourselves, and taking responsibility for ourselves, but also showing others the real values of crypto and this beautiful tech that we have... Which CAN make a difference... Which can help us to get that carrot, and maybe even the cake...

Back to the pool numbers! It looks like our "unlucky streak" is still on, but some other factors are influencing the APR... IMO, the WORKERBEE token is still overvalued at the moment, and it should be lower... But, I'm not deciding that, but the market so it is what it is... The APR looks poor, but you have to remember that most of you bought your tokens at a much lower price than it is atm...

Regarding the pool, we got a new delegator to the pool! Welcome, @keithtaylor!

This week we mined 90 BEE tokens in total!!!

This POOL doesn't have fees and you get up to 20% MORE by delegating to it!

What about the bonus tokens?

It is a turn on the LEO token to be distributed this week... I think that everyone knows what it is, so I will not waste your, and my time in explaining... One of the oldest "tribe tokens" on HIVE and one of the biggest communities on HIVE is standing behind it... The price of the token is down from its ATH, but it can be an opportunity to accumulate more... If you think that it's a bad sign, well, you can sell them easily on the market... The choice is yours!

There will be distributed 50 LEO tokens to the delegators of the pool as a bonus reward today!

As always, in the end, let's give the exact numbers for this week... 90 BEE tokens and 50 LEO tokens will be distributed as a bonus... The APR (without the bonus) was 5.025%, and when we added the bonus it went up to 6.153%!

I have calculated the ROI approximately with medium prices for all tokens at the moment of creating this post... So, those numbers are valid if you bought WB and sold BEE tokens at the middle HiveEngine price...

Never seen that tourists can influence the rent prices here, I think it is a specific situation for Spain :)

It's very easy to explain and it is happening everywhere, but because of the huge tourists impact have, it is the most visible in Spain...

Brainstorming for an idea to write or post about can be tough sometimes. You once talked about your 20% rent rise. So is it finally happening? I thought your landlord was going to be considerate and think about it again.

Yeah, those 20% is inevitable... I do understand my landlord as the prices are higher in the area, but it is a bit too much for my taste... I will probably move this autumn/winter to another area...

Well it might just cost more to even more, but if the landlord is increasing because the prices are higher, I guess they want to actually get more money for renting their space

Creating a new game with new rules indeed. I would also add just don't play the current game, or at least play the current game as little as possible.

Yeah, it's hard to change our situation and like u say about a donkey, a carrot, and a man. Most people will be in the position of a donkey. We're walking through what a man does to us. It's hard over the time. It's hard to change that fact but it's possible through your "make it difference." I hope everyone will be inspired to change the fact not just get the carrot or cake but become "a man".

This sums it all up! We are doing what is asked of us to do... Where the man is moving the carrot, that's where the donkey goes... That's why we have no choice nor chances to "win the game"... But, with Web3, by taking back our power, and empowering others, we can make a difference, as we are playing OUR game... this time, the fair play game... 💪

I think it depends. If you plan on living in that area for a long time, then buying the house might work out. However, I do agree that prices are going up everywhere. It's hard and I think crypto and real life work together. So you can't avoid having them affect each other.

That's true! But many people still don't think that crypto is real... it is still a magical internet money for them... I got a similar comment from my friend who asked me something like: "Was the whole crypto thing just a scam and fraud?"

That was his conclusion after buying some LTC miners on the top of the bull market... 😫

I think crypto can be our best shot at rewriting or creating a new game, one that's not so rigged against us. This rigged game is unsustainable and the more distance there is between the donkey and the carrot, the more problems we tend to encounter.

It is like writing a completely new game... There are some risks that it will go in the wrong direction again, but the foundations are good, so we do have a chance to do it right!

What I don't understand... are tourists renting almost the full year (different tourists at different times), to justify the increase in price? Otherwise, isn't it more profitable to have a long term renter who isn't a troublemaker?

The thing is that the part of Spain where I live isn't only a "summer holiday" place, and we have tourists all over the year... The top season is summer, and it takes 4-5 months, but even in winter times, we have many tourists from Norway, for example, that come to Spain to live in mild winter compared to the hard winter in their country...

In general, it is more profitable to rent an apartment to tourists for 4-5 months and leave the apartment empty (if that happens), than to rent for a long term... It's not a problem for my place, it is a big problem in Ibiza, Mallorca, Barcelona, etc.

Ok, I get it now. If it's an all-year business, they can get more money renting to tourists.

Maybe it would be better to have your own home then... Hopefully, this bull market could change something for the better to the bottom line when you make the calculations for a mortgage.

I guess having your own place has its advantages too. But it also comes with recurring costs (maintenance, improvements, property tax) that otherwise the landlord probably takes care of.

Believe it or not, that is the ONLY valuable solution... Currently, we are working on that and having at least a small bull run would help a lot...
