How Do YOU Vote For Hive Witnesses? .:. Recap of Hive Humpday Hangout Ep.33 + HHHLive Show Recording

in #hive-1893068 days ago

It was a real struggle to catch up with these recordings as of the 3Speak issues... Their upload service is still offline, so I have decided to upload all unpublished videos on YouTube... As I queued 3 and had other shows running during the wait, I tried to split them through 2 weeks, to not overwhelm you guys... Today, I have uploaded last week's show, so we are up-to-date!!!

Another show that we began slowly as only the "family" was there at the beginning, and just when I thought that this very important topic would be interesting enough, others joined the show and we had another memorable HHHLive episode! Don't forget to scroll down and check out the recordings... As it is on YT, if you are not too good with English, you can turn on subtitles in your native language...

The titbits method from the last recap worked very well, so I will repeat it in the future too... If you want to check more information about them, check out the recording! They are here just to give you an idea of what was discussed!

At the beginning of the show, I talked a bit about decentralization, physical and monetary decentralization (tokens and nodes)... Importance of decentralized nodes all around the world... Consensus voting for hard forks of the chain... It doesn't matter how much HivePower you have, as every witness in Top20 has the same "weight"...

After that, I listed some of the reasons why people vote for witnesses... These reasons are some of those that I got from others by reading their comments or posts on this topic... These are not rules, or anything similar, just examples... For example:

  • It has a lot of skin in the game! - He will take care of its stake, be more cautious, more responsible
  • The HBD APR is 20%! - That was a very huge selling point to some to vote... until the HIVE price went down significantly... APR went down, it wasn't a big drama at all... I suppose people understand that there is a time for a big APR and a lower APR...
  • He/she is a main developer and he knows the best what's good or bad for the chain
  • They are curating content on HIVE, they are doing something useful
  • He/she is raising some important questions that nobody wants to ask... I support him!

After that, the stage was from HHHLive participants... @palomap3 was the first to break the ice in the show! She shared witnessed that she is voting for... As she is deep into the Spanish community, she supports those witnesses... She shared how she voted mostly for Top20 when she joined HIVE, and we agreed that most of us did the same! Until we met other witnesses and dived deeper into their services, views, opinions...

@buttcoins shared why, recently, he made changes in his list of voted witnesses... When he realized that he didn't know why he was voting for some people, he decided to vote for people who met, who he knows, so he has a more personal approach to witness voting...

@achim03 stated that we are voting for people who have aligned opinions like us... Also, as a witness, you should listen to the community, and what they want to see on HIVE... In the end, it is a balance between taking into account what others are thinking... Witnesses should share their (Hive witness) journey through updates... Hive Fest is a good place for doing that!

@wanderingmoon wants to have some kind of relationship, and connection with the witness to vote for it!

Liotes Divider Blue.png

Closer to the end of the show, I decided to ask the opposite question... What would have to happen that you would NOT vote for some witnesses?

@buttcoins gave an example of 3Speak and current issues... Maybe that could be a good reason to unvote the witness, to "provoke" reaction, to push them to be better... Voting and unvoting don't have to be for forever, you can change votes in a day...

@jaydr came on the mic to "defend" 3Speak and their downtime... But we didn't attack them at all! 😃 Regarding voting for some witnesses, he stated that he likes to research the witnesses before giving his vote! That's the way to do it!

That was a good moment to wrap up the show...

Thanks for the comment! I hope you liked the show!

I vote depending on hbd interests % AND how they are involved in developments for the hive (Keychain, peakd, etc...)

Thanks for sharing your "voting method"!

I believe "listening to community" is not something that most witnesses owners do, and even if they're top 20, a lot of them aren't even in liason with what's good or what's not good for Hive, hence many people will vote for different reasons.
It seems like a show packed with a lot of talks

I read your comment on my phone a few hours ago but didn't have time to reply... Now, I realize that it probably got stuck in my brain as I completely unconsciously created a post similar to what you highlighted!

Btw. the show was indeed packed up with a lot of talks! I definitely didn't expect it when I turned on the microphone and started the show!

It happens; we read a comment, sometimes we reply with our minds, but don't reply in actuality.

Most of the time, I vote for the witnesses because either I know them in some projects, or they have taken the initiative to contact me and tell me more about themselves, including explaining to me what they have done all these years and why they deserve my vote.

Somehow, I feel like my privacy is being "attacked" when someone approaches me for a vote... But, I do understand that most votes are coming from pulling people's sleeves and asking for a vote... and some politics...
Unfortunately, I hate both things, so I have no idea how will Liotes survive as a HIVE Witness... 😂

Hehe! That's the reality I guess.

Thanks for a great show! It started slowly but got very lively after. Some good points raised and I learned some new things which is good.

It's always great to exchange opinions and experiences! Leaning from others is the best!
Thanks for participating and sharing your views! 🙏

It was an interesting show and I liked to hear about other people's reasons. Everyone seems to be different but it's just a matter of preference. There were some things that I didn't consider before.

Yeah, the fact is that all Hive witnesses care about HIVE so why would they invest time and money to help out the network by running a node in the first place... So, the small differences, opinions, and maybe the look at the future of HIVE can decide for whom you should vote or not...

I like to vote more backup witnesses than top witnesses, and it's true, they usually get the vote because I appreciate something else they do for the chain besides producing blocks and securing the chain, and some of them I interacted with at a personal level. Another criterion I use when choosing witnesses to vote for is their location. A geographically balanced list of serious witnesses is also important, both for the speed at which APIs are available in different regions of the world and for the resilience of Hive in case of regulatory adverse situations.

It looks like many more experienced Hivians are searching for that "live contact" with witnesses and appreciate more differences and diversification of Witness roles...
Thanks for sharing your witness voting reasons!

I finally found time to listen to episode 33 of HHHLive on Hive Witnesses 🙂
Although I have only been here for a short time and have not personally known any of the Hive Witnesses, I immediately understood the importance of giving a voice to those who maintain Hive BC.
My vote was not worth much in the beginning (not even at this moment), but as I grow on Hive, my vote for Hive witness has more weight. At least that's what I concluded considering the ranking of witnesses by MPH. If I'm wrong, correct me 🙂
I listened carefully to what you said and after listening to the episode, I checked how I distributed my votes.
At the moment I have 14 votes for the top 21, and the remaining 16 go all the way to over 100.
I liked the gardian comment about additional decentralization, so in the coming period I will check my votes and if it turns out that the locations of the witnesses I voted for are not geographically "dispersed" enough, I will change them a little 🙂

Thanks for checking out the recording! I'm glad that you learned something new! As time passes, you will meet more Hive witnesses, and if you attend some Hive meetups, you will get another dimension of HIVE in general.

What Gadrian said makes sense, but it's a bit techy to find the real location of the machine that runs the Witness node... I know that many are in Finland, with Privex, but there are others all around the world... If the person is in one place, it doesn't mean that the machine is in the same country...

I was thinking more about the continents, Australia, Asia, America, Africa. I believe that the Hive witness from, for example, Australia has his node in Australia.. But again, anything is possible🙂

Some do that... For example, I know that @forykw is running his @atexoras.witness Hive node from New Zealand...
