Hi, I'm Paul, an aspiring graphic designer/illustrator.
The year 2024 has ups and downs for my life. I discovered this community thanks to my sister and started sharing some of my concepts for my Splinterlands fan art. 2024 also gave me an unexpected twist with the sudden passing of my father last December 2024, feeling the loss and grief while celebrating the holidays and the upcoming year of 2025 in silence.
This 2025 will be the year when I will graduate and start my path to what I want with my career. Everything might change with time but I will face it all through with the support of my family and friends.
MY ART REFERENCE
For this week's art contest, I decided to create a fan illustration of Cryptic.
Cryptic Darkenmage, a captain in the Chaos Legion, joined in the pursuit of glory and power, hoping to one day serve at Silus of the Rift's side. Instead, he finds himself stuck in the Drybone Badlands, enforcing imperial rule in the grim town of Stonetown. Frustrated with the empire’s destructive ways and his mundane duties, Cryptic becomes disillusioned. As rebellion brews in the shadows, he listens to the whispers and waits for his chance to strike back and seize his destiny.

MY ART PROCESS
I created a simple sketch of what I visualized the character. I decided to do a looking-back female version of the Cryptic.
Started with my rough sketch of the idea in my mind. I decided to make the line art for the illustration. After finalizing the line art, I decided to start my coloring process for the illustration. Some parts of the colors used were based on the color palette of the unit.
