I hope you all are fine. I am also fine here. My post today is related to a religious place. In which I have tried to present the holy place Dev Prayag with you in detail with photographs. Dev Prayag is a small village situated on the hills. Two rivers meet in between those mountains in which one river is named Alkhnanda while the other river is named Bhagirthi river. These rivers merge to form the holy river Ganges. The Ganga River is mentioned in Hindu scriptures and has the status of a sacred river in Hinduism. So Dev Prayag is also a holy place.
The place where the two rivers meet in the first photograph above is the Dev Prayag confluence. You can see in the first photograph the bathing arrangement where Bhagirthi river and Alakhnanda river meet. In today's post, I will take you there with photographs. These photographs were captured from a height on a mountain. In which you can see the beautiful city of Dev Prayag. Along with it, Bhagirathi river and Alkhananda river have also been captured.
If you look carefully at the above photograph, you will see photographs of the building of the Central Sanskrit University. Sanskrit language is also known as the language of gods. So its other name is also Devalipi. A university is still running across this place to maintain the Sanskrit language in which many Pandits and Shastris are studying. Sanskrit language is a very old language which has been around for thousands of years.
Devprayag is a beautiful and small town located in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand state of India. It is located on the mountains which makes it look very beautiful. Just discussed above about Sanskrit language, let me also tell you that Devprayag means "confluence" in Sanskrit. Many legends of the Ramayana period are associated with this place. It is also said that Lord Rama and his father Dasharatha did penance and sadhana here.
If you look closely at the first of the three photographs above, you will see the place where the Bhagirthi river and the Alkhananda river meet. Today I will take you to the place of that corner. It is a bathing place. According to Hindu culture, taking a bath in the holy river can wash away the sins done knowingly or unknowingly. So, as the tradition has been going on for years, people have to take bath here.
In the above three photographs, I have presented to you the beauty of nature and the buildings built on the mountains. The river running through the valley and the rugged mountains standing on its edge present a beautiful natural scene. Also the Central Sanskrit University building seen in the middle photograph looks beautiful. In earlier times sages kept their disciples in ashrams and taught them. That ashram would have been located on the mountains like this. It is better to study in a peaceful environment under the shade of trees in a mountainous area.
From the above three photographs it can be seen in the middle photograph that such a scene appears as we move forward. If I talk a little about mythology, you will understand the importance of this place. Some place in the scriptures it is also mentioned that after defeating Ravana, Lord Rama performed penance at this ghat to propitiate him. There are many things about which even I do not have information. Many mythological temples are located in Dev Prayag even in present day. Which is enough to witness this place.
The four photographs above are captured on camera while standing in front of a walking bridge. The river flowing from below is Bhagirathi river. The flow of the river from Bhagir is very fast. It moves forward, leaping and making noises as it passes between the rocks. On the contrary, Alakhnanda river flows peacefully. The river Bane converges further and becomes Gangaji.
The river Bhagir originates from the Gangotri glacier. When Alaknanda Satopanth emerges from the glacier. When the Bhagirathi river and the Alakhnanda river merge at Devprayag, they give birth to the Ganges. Gangaji is one of the most revered rivers in Hinduism. There are many temples in Devprayag but one of the prominent temples is Raghunathji temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama. This ancient temple is believed to be around 10,000 years old. And it has great religious significance. Pilgrims visit this temple to seek blessings and pray. The architecture of the temple reflects the traditional Garhwali style. And it is a testimony to the rich cultural heritage of the region.
