Covenant with God

There are certain things that happen to me or to people around me that sometimes makes me feel like I'm in a movie or seeing a movie. Especially when it's something that someone had mentioned or warned me about earlier on in the past.

Earlier today, I had escorted a friend to a church, not to go worship or anything like that, but because this friend had made a covenant with God a while back and was going to fulfill this covenant.

You see back in the day, my dad would always warn us while pulling his ear with his hand (it's a Nigerian thing to show how serious you are) never to make a covenant with God that we plan on not fulfilling. And his reason for saying that was because he said covenants is a very powerful thing and always has serious consequences when not fulfilled.

Did I believe him? Of course I did... But did I take him serious though? No I did not. Not because I was scared of the consequences but probably because I had no plans of making any covenant that I wasn't going to keep, and thank God I didn't because the story my friend told me on our way to that church confirmed everything my dad had told I and my siblings.

My friend had told me the story of how he had done a business some few months ago that was meant to give him a huge sum of money if everything went through, but somewhere along the line, the whole thing kinda looked uncertain, and that was when he had promised to give the church a certain amount of money if that deal went through.

And when it did, instead of him to give that which he had promised to give to the church, he had gone on a spending spree, buying lots of furniture and gadgets for his home, basically doing everything but the one thing he had promised God that he would do. And by the time he was done, the money was gone too, all of it.

And sadly, that was the last time he made any significant amount of money. His business crumbled and he started surviving from hand to mouth. And although he said he never forgot about the covenant, he never made enough money ever again to fulfill it.

While he was telling me this story, I had some doubts in my mind, maybe he was over thinking this whole thing and just had some bad luck with his business, but when he told me that he had sold everything he bought back then with that money just so that he could feed, I believed right away.

It's sad, what happened to him, but I'm glad he finally did the right thing and fulfilled his covenants. Hopefully everything goes right back on track for him and I hope he has learnt his lesson because I sure have, and it didn't even happen to me.

Peace,
A powerful lesson on the importance of fulfilling covenants with God.
I grew up in an environment where my parent taught me that promises made should be kept, as consequences can be severe when they're not.
Have a great day

Unfortunately not a lot of people believe in these consequences until it eventually happens to them.

I think he deserves it because he has broken his promise although no one blames him for it. He didn't keep the promise he made to himself because god never asked for it.

Actually, he is to be blamed because he could have done the one thing he promised to do.. It was that simple.

It's very crazy how everything he amassed came crumbling just as it had come because he didn't fulfill his own end of the bargain with God.

One doesn't even need to experience this to learn a lesson. This story alone poses as one.

That was what actually scared me the most, him losing everything he got with that money. Hopefully things get back to normal for him and if it does, then he probably got off easy because he only lost the things he got with the money and didn't go into debts.
