The Experience at the Ikeja Airport in Lagos

Being at the airport in March this year reminded me of when I went there for the first time in the year 2017 when my Dad had his first flight to the USA. The whole environment reminded me that I was there before, though that day it was at night while this particular one happened during the day, I could remember everything as the whole experience flashed back and how things went.

The year 2017 was a time when everything was down for us financially but having such a breakthrough for my dad was the happiest time of my life because for the first time, my dad travelled out of the country and it led to having my first laptop as a gift from his fiancee before things got out of hands and the relationship could not continue.

Fast forward to March, it was another moment of joy and fulfilment for my big sister when she was given a scholarship to Germany which I have talked about here, I think twice. I'm just so proud of her.

I travelled from my city to Lagos and went with her to the airport. On our arrival, we kept praying that none of her bags was returned after being weighed and checked because she had packed everything she needed, including foodstuffs, mostly raw ones that were cheaper compared to another country she was visiting for the first time.

According to her, there is a limit to the kilograms to take and if it exceeds that, they will have to reject some of them. After all, her plan was to have in excess that would last her for a year before she started purchasing things over there.

While the whole process was going on, the airport was crowded with lots of people and security men/women were on standby warning people not to cross the boundaries, especially for those who only escort their families who are travelling out, I just couldn't leave the sight of my sister because, at that moment, I felt so emotional and about to cry but holding up and trying to be strong.

We were told not to take pictures inside the airport, but the strong-headed princessbusayo would not listen. I had to use style in taking pictures and ensuring I wasn't caught in the process. Why won't I take pictures, huh?

My sister was left to handle all her bags at different checkpoints while we (myself and two of my sister's friends) stood in a corner, watching how it went. The stress and anxiety on her face were relieved when her bags were confirmed and sent in, and none were returned.

She was so excited, and that was when she had time to talk and express her satisfaction, she then suggested we go out to eat together before her departure time at 10:30pm. Thanks to one of our uncles who returned from Miami that night and still had to travel to another country and was waiting in the same airport, he was the one who paid for our food and drinks.

It was a moment of happiness and the last time we would be eating together until when she decided to come back to Nigeria, perhaps for her wedding celebration, which I believe God for her to do in the year 2025. I can't wait to meet her again 💓

I understand the happiness of approving all your luggages in the airport, I remember when they asked one of my friend to reduce some of the things she packed, she was so angry

One would definitely be sad and angry. Thank you for your comment.

Welcome 🤗

I also have some similar experience in airport but for after growing up I don't want to go to airport.
Capturing picture is restricted in airport but we love to do restricted things. So, I can understand why you captured picture. I would do the same also.
!PIZZA

Hehehe. We love to do restricted things especially when they are so important to us. So, it's still good.

I have never traveled by plane, I am sure it must be a great experience, however I have been many times at the airport saying goodbye to many relatives who have managed to flee Venezuela, next February my parents are going to Chile, never to return to Venezuela again, it will be the last time I will see them.

It is true about the weight of the suitcases because my relatives have told me that the suitcases should not weigh more than 22 kilograms, this is known by all those who flee from communism, and they always say. My whole life in a suitcase.

Wow. It means you and your parents would be talking via technology. Won't you go meet them someday in Chile? I would love to travel out someday.
Yea, a lot of people packed a lot in their suitcases and hope none isn't rejected at the airport after being weighed.
Thanks for your beautiful comment. I appreciate.
