Grandma, tell me a story. Creative Nonfiction Prompt #115

in #hive-17079810 days ago

Grandma, tell me a story.

This year I have had many difficulties. In the middle of March I had a fall. At that time I fractured my hip. As a result of this accident I had four months in bed, thanks to God that allowed me to fend for myself. And allowed me to walk. As what entertains me and makes me feel good is to write my stories in the Hive. I immediately wrote a non-fiction one and published it. From that moment on I couldn't write any more because my computer was damaged, it was useless. Then I began to feel bored, a little sad and depressed. Since my great-grandson and his mother kept me company, she got a good man, they got married and went to live in another housing development.

In the month of October, next to my house, they put up a big shopping mall and many people and children pass by there. In front of my house I have a very large covered porch, anchored to an iron pipe structure. Many people stand there to get some protection from the sun. In those days of boredom when I was very lonely, I decided to take out my rocking chair and sit in a space on that porch, after I got rid of the household chores.

As I sat in my rocking chair, exhausted in my thoughts, a little girl named Susej, seven years old, with cinnamon skin, jet-black eyes, black hair curled like coal curls drawn by the night in the sky within its clouds pregnant with water,

Susej is the daughter of my neighbor Migdalys. She came up to me and asked me “”"” Grandma, can you tell me a story?”. With a smile on my lips I answered “Of course, my daughter”, and I told her a story in which the main character was a girl with the same characteristics as her. She was fascinated with that story and asked me to tell her another one. I was delighted to tell her.

The next day I sat on the porch again, in a few seconds Susej arrived with four girls from the community and very excitedly they said to me in chorus “Grandma, we want you to tell us a story about how you did it with Susej”.

I told them, “Don't worry, I will tell you several.”
.
I asked each of them how old they were and what their names were, each one stood up and went around answering:

“Genesis, 7 years old.”
“Ronyangela, 6 years old.”
“Mariángela, 7 years old”.
Luisana, 7 years old”.

I told them four stories, they were beaming with happiness. At the end of my stories, they gave me a kiss on the cheek and said goodbye saying “See you tomorrow.”
.
Every day they came to the porch, I told them my stories, we interacted as if they were my granddaughters. So I left boredom behind. I found joy, happiness and companionship, if only for a few hours.

In this first week of December with my savings I bought my computer. And today, as one more element of happiness, I am writing my story in the Hive.

Y me permitió caminar.

Thank you for your vote. HaThppy evening

It's good you were able to recover from the hip fracture and become useful to yourself and your family again. I love the determination with which you pulled through in that situation. And now you're back to a normal life, having the company of those little girls and entertaining them with stories. You are also back to publishing on hive. You've done entirely well for yourself. Thanks for writing and have a nice day.

I love that you read my story. Have a great night

It's nice to read you again here. We hope to continue reading you in our beloved hive.

The best thing about this whole story is that it is non-fiction! I couldn't help but be reminded of my grandmother and her stories that I loved so much. I think grandmothers should be immortal. Thank you for this beautiful story. Regards

I loved your comment God bless you and have a happy evening

Hello @rammargarita, What a lovely, lovely story. The children will remember those sessions on the porch well into their adulthood. It is a gift you gave them, and they gave you.

I'm glad you are getting about and writing again. Having a computer does help, doesn't it :)

I am so glad to hear from you and that you liked my story. I wish you many happy returns with your husband and children, wishing you lots of happiness and health in these days of Christmas.
